So we're here in Custer, however we gave up the cabin at the resort.  Why, you may ask?  Freaking gravel.  Seriously.  Myself and Dove have zero desire to washout and fork up the plastic after a long day of riding.  We grabbed a room at the resort's "sister motel" (All American Motel) for the same price.  The rooms are... ok.  Better than the resort surprisingly enough (although the ones at the resort are surprisingly... antique), however there is NO internet.... pisses me off.  Anyway, we're here and we'll be coming up on Tuesday for the meet and eat and all that good stuff.  Anybody else staying in town?  We may grab an Econolodge or something else on Tuesday/ wednesday night.

Oh hey, any interest in going on a spelunking tour on Tuesday?  The jewel caves offer one that we're considering doing -- only like 30 bucks but it takes about 3 hours or so.

edit:  We're looking for a riding group for Wednesday too -- if anyone has it in their hearts to take on a couple that likes to ride at... spirited/ extra-legal speeds let me know or give me a yell.  We would rather not go much beyond the 'double the posted corner speed' as the roads here are pretty well traveled and relatively narrow.  We rode quite a bit today and the roads are EXCELLENT but a fair amt of traffic.  Fortunately a lot of them pull over to let you pass, which is really cool.  Anyway, my digits are nine-seven-nine-five-seven-five-8299.  Give a holler if yer up for the spelunking tour or have a spot in a smaller spirited group.  BTW, if you are planning on taking needles highway and i think everyone is) take  5 bucks -- gotta pay to ride it!  The tag lasts a week though.

Yes I did.  I'm a wuss :P  I don't like going up-hill on any gravelly areas, much less downhill in it.  I don't have a dual sport and I despise dropping my bike :P  Neither of us wants to play with replacing plastics.  Not only that, but i don't wanna deal with riding up that crap after dinner in the dark.

I'm not too worried about the gravel, but I'm not going to fault anyone who is. I've had to ride on enough of it the last couple of days. Crazy

I figured they didn't have the internet since they don't even have phones in the cabins.

Uh yeah.. I'm about with you on the gravel thing. Is there a way to park on asphalt and walk to the cabins? Or is the whole approach to the resort on gravel?

Nope.  I asked and the closest asphalt is the street.  It really wouldnt' be a big deal if it were flat.  Hell, I drive 1/4 mile on a FLAT caliche driveway(sp?) every time I ride my bike at home.  We just didn't feel comforable with the gravel and the narrow, slightly windy driveway combined with the hill.  If a car were coming down and you hit your brakes, or coming down and tapping the brakes just a little too hard, I could see some plastic being easily forked.  Anyway, there's plenty of room at their sister motel here -- come on by Smile
