Oh nice! there's a bunch of us heading to the local 1/8th mile track tomorrow evening.
I'm trying to decide if I want to take the VFR or the ST1300
Any tips for a drag-strip newb?

Yes study the videos above and pick up a few pointers. I was ducked down behind the windscreen with my weight as far forward as i could possibly get.my opponents were not. You want to kiss your gauges if you can. Get your feet out behind you so all your weight is on your upper body which is on the tank. Slip the clutch and roll the gas on gently at the same time. I leave at 5500 rpm, work your way up to that. Start around 3000 and increase with each run. This is the most important tip.............. concentrate on the yellow bulb above the green light. Don't look at any other lights. when that yellow comes on leave! don't wait for the green light you will lose every time. shift at 500 to 1000 rpm before your bikes peak HP . by the time your brain reacts and your hands and feet follow you will be at the point you need to be to make the shift. good luck and let me know how you make out.

That was the best part of our night at the strip. All of my friends were into the twisties as I am but they had this preconceived idea about how easy dragracing was. They all were humbled quickly and now have a greater respect for the sport. I am happy I can do both halfway decent. I am just as happy leaned over working on eliminating the chicken strips as I am blasting out of the whole and leaving somebody at the tree.

Maybe the next Nat'l or Regional meet, we can also have a drag strip for a day? Just every one out dragging, safely and on a designated track. I'd do it, if it weren't very expensive. Just a thought

Its usually between 20 and thirty dollars to race depending on the track.

No, it's usually for the night - all the runs you want to try to cram into the evening....

I assume you do a burnout first, right? Also, how much pressure in the rear is preferred?

I did not do a burnout and just rode around the burnout area. I ran full pressure in my pilot road rear tire. I never spun the tire at all. Most drag strips have tons of rubber down and if your gonna slip your clutch out of the whole you probably will have enough traction without airing down or doing a burnout. If you don't, then you still have both of those for options. If it is really hot out sometimes the track has less traction because the oil comes up a little

Give Jethro a break, I had the experience factor going for me. Jethro has already vowed to destroy me in August in Maine at winterport dragway in a rematch. He will be practicing before that and doing some mods.
