Anyone run two different Garmins on the same laptop?

I seem to have a bit of an issue here. For years now I've owned a Garmin GPS V, which on some roadtrips with the family in the car I use as an interface with my laptop, either in MS Streets and Trips, or in the Mapsource software (I have yet to try nRoute). The City Navigator software with the V is version 5.0.
Well, I just got a StreetPilot 2720, and with it came City Navigator vs. 8.0. So I loaded it, unlocked it, and now I've seem to have lost the ability to actively track my location in Mapsource, and that I have to unlock the City Navigator vs. 5.0 again.... what a PITA.

I have two Garmin GPS units that support two different map versions on the same PC. All you do is run Mapsource and switch maps. Go to View, Switch Product.

IIRC Garmin lets you have up to 3 units tied to a product at one time. Make sure that your GPS V is included in your registration info that Garmin has on file. You may have to register the V, but then all your issues should disappear.

Er,
two
receivers per product - after that, ya gotta pay (Garmin) to play. FWIW, I currently have CN NA V7, V8, CN Europe V8, V9 accessible from Mapsource.

GPS V won't work with CN NT which comes with the 2730.

Rumor has it with CN V9 only 1 unit.

Right... my third one is an eMap that came out before all the unlock/registration stuff. What do they charge for additional receivers?

Um, rumor is in error. Added receivers are, IIRC, $75 but what do I know? This is something to ask

I guess I wasn't CLEAR that you had to PAY for adding an extra unit. Up till CN V8 you could do 2 units without paying for the 2nd one.

I guess
I
wasn't clear enough, either.
I currently have two Garmin products (2610 and 3600) hanging off MapSource (CN NA V8) without a charge from Garmin for either or both or whatever.
If, however, I wanted to add a third receiver... "pay here, please". As to
how much to pay
, please see Garmin.
BTW, when I first looked at this topic, I thought someone was trying to run two GPS' side by side for comparisons. FWIW, I tried that (2610 and C330) and it's not that easy to do. It seems one or both receivers leak RF and confuse the other receiver(s). With the units on opposite sides of the car, things started working but anything much closer... no joy.

I've seen some of the IBI setups and many of them seem to use 2 GPS's. I wonder if they use something to shield them?

Well, yeah, you could build little foil Faraday cages but that'd play hell with the internal antennas. Maybe they just run one receiver at a time?
