Topic of the grid seems to be Ducati and their "I don't need the draft" top
speed... so much so the consensus is that you're cheating... like how could
things be equal when the 7 time World Champion has to push hard just to
keep up with the kid??? you watch the little God Spawn push so hard until
things go wrong... so what did they find upon tech tear down??? nothing but
a legal V4... take note Yamaha...

Yep... and this is the 3rd Stoner and Rossi duel where Casey emerged victorious... I think the Doctor feels
pressured...

I think we are going witness battles for the title on par with Freddie and Roberts... Rainey and Schantz...
let's hope it don't turn ugly...

I've been a die hard Rossi fan since his 125 days, but i have to admit even though the Ducati has loads of power, Stoner is riding his @ss off.  I see the power in the straights, but to maintain in the curves takes skill as we all know.  WIshing for a great battle as well, but I hope Rossi can pull it off.

Yep where's Loris?  It's with a heavy heart that I say this may be it for him.  I read the Italian press as well and there are rumors that after the birth of his first son his heart just may not be in it anymore.  I hope they're wrong and he gets it turned around.

Who was accusing Ducati of cheating...other race teams or just the general press?

Despite the fact that Nicky is not doing as well as I would have hoped, this season is turning out to be a good one.  I predict the race for the championship will be tight to the end.  Stoner and Ducati have found their "groove" and I'm sure it is eating way at Rossi to no end that he has no answer to Stoner's new found ability to stay upright.

On Capirossi...I think he's done.  Becoming a parent can/should have a monumental impact on a person.  The funny thing is that Colin actually went faster after he became a Dad.   Lol

I hope they do get ugly, a real rivalry, a fairing banging, fist waving, accusation thowing battle to the end. I want the entire season, the championship to come down to the last corner of the last race. I'd like it to end just like this last race ended, a real duel to the end, may the best rider/team/manufacture win. As long as its not Pedrosa Wink

I thought that part of the issue was traction control and firing order.  I seem to remember that Ducati pulled out all the stops with their new TC, and were able to change the firing order, giving them more power.  Don't quote me on that, as I can't remember where I read that.  Something about being able to switch from the "big bang" firing order to something different?

It is simple... if you think of engine configurations in political correct terms then they are irrelevant...
but if you think of engine configurations in engineering terms then they are very relevant... so far the
V4 proves to be engine of choice in MotoGp... the inherent problems of the I4 make it difficult for a rider
to gain the podium... Rossi has to take more risk than Stoner to win... and taking more risk means more
mistakes... looking back in histroy when the two stroke reign supreme Yamaha tried the I4 but soon join
the ranks of V4s... no one raced an I4 in 500cc Gp... they were all V4s... that's how relevant engine
configuration was to the engineers at Yamaha Honda Suzuki and so shall it be in MotoGp... I predict
history will repeat itself and you'll see only one engine configuration in MotoGp... I believe Yamaha and
Kawasaki will eventually drop the I4 in favor of the V4...

I'm surprised at the lack of respect for Stoner's riding ability.

We've seen it before. A young rider places respectably but with no wins. Then he wins one race, discovers something within himself and then goes on a tear...kinda like another Australian rider.

Of course this thread might be a diversionary tactic so that we might not notice Honda's continuing struggle to cure their V 4's vague front end.

I agree... Stoner is the new Doohan...

Honda will get their V4 set up right just as they did with their last V4 race bike that's resting
handsomely in my garage after just ripping the ears off that latest I4 motor of deaths...

Tetsuya Harada will be waiting for him in the bushes like Cato would do to Inspecteur Clouseau  Bigsmile

I've seen a few articles (which may be nothing more then a bad rumor) linking him with Kawasaki as well.

According to a Ducati spokesman that is not a V-4, but rather 2-Vtwins..  Lol(I'll try to find the exact quote)

As for Stoner, it should be no surpirse. If you paid attention to him last year he always rode very well, he just crashed all the time. Once he figured out how to quit crashing it's only logical that he will be at the front.

Yeah, I think that's it. That and/or too much time arguing in The Dungeon.

Then keep it in PO, IMO.

That's my fault... back in 98 during the V4 / V2 wars in WSBK... I went out on the limb and stated that V2
are dead & buried and someday Ducati would copy Honda and race a V4 like the RC45...

post in off topic or shut up.

I would say - post ON TOPIC or shut up.  But yeah, the sentiment's the same.

Can you people please f**king take it to PM or leave it in PO?  We're trying to enjoy the rest of the forum.  K thanks.

I'll echo what's said about Stoner.  I just watched the Catalunya race, just now, and was on and off the edge of the couch with my girlfriend laughing at me for my vexation.  Casey simply outrode Dani and the Doctor.  He was unflappable, and it was a joy to watch.  I hope the rest of the season stays this competitive, coz I'm sick of knowing who's going to win before the race is half over.

One of Stoner's main strengths is showing restraint. Rossi is riding the hell out of his bike and is having to push it to the limit to keep up with the Duc. Not many (if any riders) can do that and pull it off. Casey knows what the strength of the bike is and is using it.

If Rossi doesn't win the championship it's only because he has more go
than his Yamaha... he rides his heart out but his bike fails to keep up...

So it isnt even possible that Rossi could lose the championship because Stoner earned the victory? That seems a tad unfair, especially as a statement made so early in the season.

That is not really what I meant. I meant that Casey is showing an amazing amount of maturity as a rider and not going toe to toe with Rossi and knowing what the strength of his bike is. Meaning that Casey is using great strategy alongside his riding ability.

Tires guys, tires. It is the biggest factor here.
It changes from race to race, but on average Bridgestone ( Stoner ) has been much better then Michelin ( Rossi,Pedrosa) so far this year.
Sure Ducs are faster then the rest ,but it has very little to do with V4 configuration.
2 factors, desmo valve train and screamer firing order.Desmo has less friction,hp in case of MotoGp is somewhat limited by size of fuel tank.( 19 liters ?).The rest of the field is on traditional valves minus Suzuki. But zukis are using 70 deg Vee,it gives them more freedom with engine location, but  their intake is choked vs 90 deg Vee.

It is all compromise,V4 is narrower then inline 4 but ,in case of 90 deg Vee,there is alwayes a problem with weight distribution, not enough on front tire, they don`t want to turn in,especially in tighter sections. In past years Rossi was able to dive inside of Vee competition at will, all things being equal inline 4 is more nimble bike, perhaps less stable.

I hope that Moto Gp will follow F1 and go to spec ECU,basically no traction contol, real riding talents will shine again, not some geek who wrote the program.

It is too early to tell, but perhaps Stoner IS next Rossi,Doohan,,,,,,,,,,,

There is still quite a bit of tuning that has to be done by the rider to have the bike perform the way *THEY* want it to perform.

I don't get why you guys all want "spec" racing.  Watched WAYYY too much Nascar!

Agreed. Anyway, the big breakthrough Nicky Hayden found last week was to turn the traction control way down, so the 800 has more power and slides around like the old 990s.

All things being equal, I'll take Rossi every time.  Stoner is going to earn his championship on the back of a superior bike.   There's nothing wrong with that.

Put Rossi on the Duc, and the end is a forgone conclusion.

I've watched it. Yeah, he binned it, but he was racing at the front and had been consistently fast all weekend. That counts as a major breakthrough in his disastrous season.
