Am going have my bike painted this winter and am interested in ideas for a custom paint scheme.

Not looking for anything off beat or too unusual, just something a little different and more interesting than stock single color scheme.

Any ideas and all pictures very much appreciated, thanks.

I've always wondered how a bike painted the way we did reverse art in elementary school would look.

Step one, obviously prepare body.

Step two, grab about 12 different colrs and spray patches everywhere until 100% coverage.

Step 3, lay out pinstripes. here's where you get creative. Either be staid and follow body lines, or go a little carzy and create. Ghost flames, crosswork, all askew, whatever.

Step 4. Spray cover coat of some sort of black, or silver, or any strong solid, or even pearl, etc.

Step 5. Remove pinstriping.

Step 6. Add decals, if desired.

Step 7. Clear the whole thing.

Should end up with a color splash in little pinstripes everywhere. You never know what or where.

My second idea is say the italian flag all a flutter over the whole bike, just barely visible through a fog of off white. Kinda like the prismatic colors.

Just an idea or two.

I like the tricolore idea but the paint scheme they ran in Mugello last year was awesome.  This is the best pic I could find of it:

Tricolore might be hard to pull off. Do you have access to photoshop? What color is your bike now?

IMHO a flashy tricolore or racing replica do not suit the classical ST3 but if you have to have something with that kind of impact why not do something based on the lovely Ducati 998S Bostrom.

Interesting topic, I've been thinking of doing the same to my ST2, but only painting the rims, frame and tank, keeping the plastic the same red it is now.  Of course that would limit my options, but I love Duc's that have the frame painted a nice bold contrasting color.

Red frame, black body work, red wheels.

That would look really, really nice and it is simple. Good call.
