Rode a Buell, got a bag.

Let me start by saying I like Buells. I have ever since I rode the XB9 the first year out. The messenger bag is also very nice, just like the rest of the free stuff they give away.

Friday I went to my local dealer to ride a Buell and get the bag. Their demo bike was the XB12Scg. There was a definite difference between the cg seat and the regular. I like the shape of the low seat, but the legroom of the regular. If I was going to buy one, I'd probably get the regular XB12S.

So after the initial paperwork, etc, I get on the bike and start it up. Dang, what a vibrator. But I was expecting it and knew it would smooth out, so it didn't bother me....

Long story short, I was kinda disappointed this time. The left mirror was useless because it wouldn't tighten down, so it moved around all over the place. The clutch was EXTREMELY touchy. It was very difficult for me to leave from a stop smoothly. I've demoed 4 or 5 other Buells over the last few years and don't remember that before. Brakes were touchy too.

When we got back to the dealer, I told them about the mirror. He said they were aware of it and had a part on order. But that still puzzled me, because they're the dealer! They should have parts in stock, and if they don't, it should only take a day or two to get it, especially since we're only a few hours away from East Troy.

I think most of what I didn't like this time was down to setup, or lack thereof. I still like'em and if I ever am seriously looking at getting a new bike, the Lightning will be on my short list.

Oh yeah, one other thing I noticed was the sound. I don't know if it had the race kit or not, but dang at 3k - 4k it sounded bad ass.

I rode a XB9SX (City Cross) about 3 weeks ago.  It felt like I was sitting on top of the front tire.  I'm hoping they have a xb12 TT next time I stop by before I rule out Buell as a potential bike purchase.

Buells are certainly a funny breed.  I demoed a Uly to get my bag.  That to me felt very odd, tall and erect.  'Course, I thought my Firebolt was SO uncomfortable when I first bought it too.  Love it now.

Seems like each bike has a very unique character, way more than bikes in the Honda line, etc. (IMO)

Keep in mind the Buell demo bikes belong to Buell-not the dealer, thus they can't swap parts.  
Yeah, the City X is tall but trust me, you'll be dragging pegs within a few days of riding it.

When I test rode the Uly, the salesman said it gave him a reason to test out a tt. He took me on 1 hell of a ride. Love the bike. The salesman had to keep fooling around with the left mirror on his tt. Was never tightened. Other than that, both bikes were a blat to ride. So much so I want to get a Uly within a year.

 Road the bike got the bag. I first rode the XB12S  since I have ridden a Uly before. Fun bike, felt very small, ( 6' 170 lb.) I  really liked it make a great second bike. Then back on the Uly, funny how two bikes so similar could feel so different. The Uly fits me just right, love the ergos, Love the way the motor pulls, fits the way I ride.
 They where very nice at TSI in Elington CT.
 Thinking of trying to fine a second hand Uly in the next year or so. I'm trying to kick my multiple bike disorder.I think the uly can do it all. I think.
 I just like funky bikes, always have. Have owned a lot of Guzzis.

Funny, I rode a Uly yesterday and the left mirror was lose.  The sales guy took it in the back and turns out the threads were buggered up and he had to get another mirror from another bike.  Sounds like whoever is assigned mirror assembly at Buell needs to go!  Loved the bike, and got the bag too!

My boss just bought an 06 Uly that I found for him on Craigslist. Hard bags, top case and and all in top condition for just over $9000. It's a sweet bike. I've been using the bag ever since I got it, and it was so much nicer to ride with than a back pack! All I need now is figure out a good way to connect my lunch bag to it.

I demoed a Uly and I'll got was a gangsta wool beanie as they were out of the bags.  

Fun bike to ride, but was basically a mobile Easy Bake Oven as the heat just poured out.
