Yeah, but more like a wannabe, particularly this year. I broke my leg in April. Ironically, I could ride a bicycle before I could walk w/out crutches. It was Great! Thumbsup I could get around. But stopping was troublesome. I left my crutches in the garage and then just rode in and grabbed a wall joist and used it to balance while I dismounted.  EEK! Worked well until wife CLOSED THE GARAGE DOOR WHILE I WAS OUT RIDING Mad2 But once I could walk and ride the moto, I haven't done much bicycling. And of course, even when I did ride I couldn't even think about anything off road.

Bikes are in my sig because someone posted that we all *had* to put our bikes in our sig.  Nuts

I used to have a Specialized, but it got stolen after I put about 1200 miles or so on it.  It was a decent setup in its day.  Now I have an old trek that I've permanently borrowed from my father in law, since he can't ride it anymore.  Around here we have mostly tracks with sand so thick in them that you can't get much traction with any skinny tire (relative to MX that is).  We have the rails to trails things, but those pretty much suck - flat and boring.  Last year when I "borrowed" it, I rode it the 4 miles from here up to the highest point in the entire lower peninsula and I think I got it up to 38 mph on the way down.  We're 1290' ASL here, and it's 1739' there, so I had a little sweat after I was done messing around.  To make things worse, something in the gearing is not adjusting right.  I used to have the adjustments down just perfect, but I haven't fiddled with those gearsets before (the sprockets are somewhat oval if that means anything to you).

I might get the bike out for a ride here shortly.  I have a singletrack in my back acreage that would work for one with a little "modifications" to a few spots (one is very swampy and the other is along the side of a steep hill with pine roots right in the way.  I think if you took the trail right now on a mountain bike it would be "challenging".

Maybe I should just keep it the way it is, no?  Maybe I'll give it a shot and report later.  It might be pretty fun for old time's sake - and help restrict feeding the winter "beast" by actually upping my activity a bit.

GT Zaskar

I used to ride alot.  Couple times a week in Palos and once or twice a month in the Kettles.  Even did the Chequamegon 40 once.  Haven't really ridden much in a few years.  I need to start again.

Sounds like a plan to me!

Oh, and yes.  I'm on a 98 Fisher Tassajara that I completely redid last winter.  Rode in the Fall Color Fest 2 years in a row now at Kettle, and also like to hit Palos on occasion...

I have a Trek 9.9 mtb and a Cannondale CAAD3 road bike.  Used to be heavily into racing (did the short and fat or Chequamegon 40 for 10 years in a row and did WORS racing for 7) but since my daughter was born the training time has sort of vanished.  I'd love to ride the kettle with some of you F.U.C.K.E.R.S.

Have a specialized stumpjumper and an older GT hardtail.  Wifey doesn't know it, yet, but she's getting a new GT for Xmas!
