I know this isn't the gear section but it's closer to the dirt section so I hope this doesn't get moved.

I was going to get Michelin Bajas but my dealer's advice was to give the 606 a try and he said I'd be impressed. What say you? I mostly ride offroad but sometimes travel pavement 50 - 100 miles. He said the 606 should wear pretty well. So I'm having a set mounted.

Previously I had Karoos and I thought they were good enough for what I do when they were new but they didn't last long - about 1000 miles.

I had a set put on my DRZ last month. Only been off-road with them a few times. They seem OK, but I expected more. Rear doesn't hook up as much as I expected it would and the front seems to plow a bit. I was surprised how smooth they are on the road for an aggressive looking tire though. So at this early juncture, I'll say it seems to be a great 50/50 tire, which is what I wanted. Way too early to know about wear. Lots of people seem to like them (at least the rear) on the DRZ forum on ThumperTalk which is why I decided to give them a try.

I had a set and the rear worked pretty well, I don't like the front at all seems to plow for me as well.  They did wear pretty well don't remember how many miles I got out of them.  The rear still had tread left when I replaced, but when I re-geared my bike to dirtbike specs it would not hook up at all.  It would of been fine for fire roads, pavement and light single track.  I replaced the back with a Kenda Trakmaster II and it hooks up fantastic.  But I hear they wear fast, and don't do any pavement wheelies you will rip the knobs off.  I have done a few, with no Ill effect so far. I need to replace my D606 front will probably go AC10 or M21. I have heard both are good.

A few of the guys around here run them.  Most like the rear OK in the nasty clay-based mud and sand we get around here, but no one has much good to say about the fronts.

I've got TKC-80s on my 640 Adventure, but have yet to have time to take it off-road.  On the street, I'm not that impressed - not terrible, but I liked the Metzler Sahara that was on it better.

Well I did my first single track with them last night on my 610 and I think I like them better than the Karoos. It's hard to say because when my Karoos were new I was just getting started in the whole dirt thing. The front seemed to work OK for me and I wonder if that's because my bike is a little heavier than say a 525, 450, etc.

Next I think I'll try some Michelin Bajas but I bet they won't last long.

I think the general census is that the Pirelli MT21 front works a little better than the 606 front.  I had 606 front and rear on my DRZ when I got it.  This spring I switched to a MT21 Front and a Maxxix 6006 rear.  I think this is a really good 50/50 combo..and the MT21 front does feel slightly better.  I am always such a chicken shit about my front end washing out though.  The 6006 rear is like half the price of the MT21 or 606 and seems to work really well.  Its slightly more road biased...bit I have not noticed a difference in traction yet.  I don't mind the rear sliding around a bit anyway  Smile

Oh..and BTW....the on road handling of both the 606 and the MT21/6006 combo are surpising.  You can get some pretty good lean going....and hustle through the twisties quite well.

They feel the most like a real offroad knobbie, including bizzare feeling handling on the pavement (you'll get used to it and not feel slowed down at all).

The 606s seem to stick pretty well in the dirt, and that's on my 420lbs dirt bike!
Not fond of them on pavement as they feel, just, like, a knobby! EEK!
Haven't had them long enough to know how they wear.  For anything more than a few miles I'll ride my Z or switch to the other set of wheels.

The ONLY thing I don't care for with the Baja's on my LC4 are they are BUUUUZZZZY!  They'll put your feet to sleep on the pegs with boots on!  Talk about numb bumb!  Other than that, I think they are a great tire.  They were on the bike when I got it, I've put about 1K on them, mixed gravel, offroad, highway.  They look like they'll maybe go that again.  My buddy had MT21's on his KLR, liked them fine, but they melt like butter on the highway.  Good luck.

OK it's official. The front 606 sucks some serious moist ass cheese on sandy gravel roads. It's OK on single track though I don't remember my Karoo skating off the side of a sandy road like this one does.

No crashes, I just don't get happy thoughts from it.  Rolleyes

I've done dirt bikes and street bikes but I'm a DS NOOB. Tires seem to be the single most challenging aspect. I'm hoping the MT-21's I've ordered willl be ok for awhile. But I doubt they will withstand many 600 miles pavement weekends.  I think I'm going to pick up a set of Siracs for more road biased riding after the MT-21's bite it.

I suspect I'm going to never find a tire that does it all.
