Motorcycle Course
«
on:

For Christmas this year I'm going to pay for my brother's and his wife's motorcycle safety course. They are in Hermosa Beach, CA. I'm on the east coast, so I would appreciate any reviews of courses near them. I'm hoping to find a course near them and/or find out if anyone has had any problems with a local course (I really want them to have a positive experience). Thanks

I can't help with the particulars of the sites, but I can give you info about locating them. Call 1-(877) RIDE-411 for more info.
Here's the website for the CA motorcycle safety program:

Great idea; I am doing the same for my daughter and her boyfriend, who rode my SV640 in the fall and loved it. Get them started right!

If anyone is looking for a course the best way is to go to the MSF web site.
www.msf-usa.org
.
In the menu bar select RiderCourse Info and select RiderCourse Locaitons. You can then search for approved sites in your area.

Yes, but some courses are better taught, and/or suit different learning styles, better.

Luck of the draw. I doubt you could determine the best instructor and sign them up for his/her specific class. Actually doubt you could find name of specific instructor.

Thanks for your replies, they were helpful.
They are pretty much new to bikes. My brother has been on a dirt bike once or twice, but that is it.
I just want to avoid any course that has a bad reputation.

If they are newby riders then the MSF basic rider course is a sound bet. Some Harley dealers offer the same course through their Rider's Edge program. It is about a 2.5 day course.
I think there would be plenty of room for argument on the best course for a more experienced rider. I dont think many people will find fault with the basic courses offered by either.
The Harley course uses the Buell Blast. The MSF course uses a variety of 250s depending on what is available.

Hi
I also agree on finding a MSF cert. course. These have been around for quite some time and have a good reputation. Do check their web site for a course near their area. Please remember that some states do adjust the curriculum to meet the individual state requirements but this is done with the approval of the MSF and the state agency involved.
As with everything there will always be a one or two bad seeds in a group as large as the MSF. But they are very few.
