I've decided I need a bit of a change so I'm going to pickj up a 05 DRZ400SM.
It's to be a short range bumpy dirt back road tool. Something I can enjoy in small bites.

How do you like yours?

I absolutely love my SuMo.   Inlove
It's the most fun you'll have with a 36 HP motorcycle.
I also have a 2003 Honda ST1300, so the DR-Z usually gets the action for
commuting duties and kickin' around the back roads in SW Lower Michigan.

Plenty of mods available to increase the HP if you wish and parts are a lot less expensive
than those for a sport bike.

If you haven't done so already, check out www.thumpertalk.com and www.supermotojunkie.com

I like mine quite a bit.It seems like now I put almost twice the mileage on it as I do on my CBR. I've done a few mods to mine to increase the hp just a little bit and it's increased my affection for the bike.

To describe my thoughts, I would say it's like those old Timex commercials. It takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.

if it's for dirt roads, why get the SM instead of the dual sport version?

The SM version is no dirt road bike.  Trust me on this.  The SM is shod with 100% street rubber.  There may be alternatives, but the stock configuration is pavement only.

I have almost 6K on my '06.

This was taken down at Deal's Gap a couple of weeks ago.  It's me giving chase to my wife on her DR650 supermoto.  Of all the bikes I've ridden the Dragon with, a supermoto is hands down the best.
