Well I noticed no one has posted in here for a couple of days.  I'm not sure what to do, no questions about 14 vs 14a, no routes through the wilds of Colorado.  Is everyone busy at work?  Rolleyes

Hey! I actually know to what you refer, because I was faced with such choices heading to the National!

Sure BJ, I tease the folks in region one from time to time about how slow the games of tag are going.

Where are you at now?  Did you meet up with the fellow that was flying into Rapid City?

(hopefully I have matched the person to the screen name properly.)

Well a friend of the family passed away, and I'm going to pay my respects.   Sad  Please take care of the shop while I'm out.  Wouldn't want the n00bs to get lost in the wilds of Montana.  Wink

I spend a bunch of time on the Colorado Sportbike Club forums. While it has "sportbike" in it, there are a bunch of different kinds of riders. We do rides into the mountains, track days, motogp riders, dirt rides, stunters, racers, and ironbutt rides. There are picnics, BBQ's, tech days, weekly get togethers. We get together for special events like the end of race season last year. The folks who know how to do things help the others who don't. Currently there's a scavenger hunt going on with the northern faction. They've hidden a couple of the Troll Dolls somewhere in the Fort Collins area and the first hint will be released at the weekly Motohaus meeting.

I went to the tech day because my Hayabusa was making a funny noise in the front end. Turned out it was a bearing that had bailed. I did a majority of the work but they were there to point me in the right direction. We got the bike up on the front stand, we took off the calipers, dropped the wheel and found the failed bearing. The host of the tech day let me leave my bike in his garage. The other guy who was helping took the tire to his place to remove the stuck race. I met him back at the hosts place and we put the new bearings and seals back in the front tire and then put the tire back on the bike. For the work, they both refused a couple of bucks for their time.

Of course it's the intardnet so there's drama on the forums along with the real good information. The forums contain only the second person I've ever put on ignore (the first was a 'tard in the dc-cycles mailing list).

In general it's a really good group.

I'm sorry to hear about your family friend though. Please accept our sympathies and be safe.

Well I noticed no one has posted...

Here's something that's fairly pointless, but sort of interesting, anyway.  There is a theme (a double-yellow line down the center), all of them were taken on motorcycle trips, and just about all of these are in Region 3.

My guess is that no one knows about a hwy 14A!  I have no idea where it is either, but do know that Hwy 14 aka Poudre Canyon Hwy, is a great road.  The locals ride it all the time; twisty and scenic.  It runs from Muddy Pass to Bellvue; grand total of 130 miles (one way).  Most of it runs along Colorado's only "Wild & Scenic" river - the Cache la Poudre.  Lots of camping and some lodging along the way.  I think only one town, Walden, has gas and groceries.  Let us know if you're coming down to ride it and we'll meet you!

(does this thread have any theme at all?)

CO-14 is Poudre Canyon in Colorado
US-14 follows Shell Creek as it crosses the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming
US-14A takes the northern approach into the Big Horn Mountains.

In the past, there have been discussions (even arguments) as to which is the better route over the Big Horn Mountains between Sheridan and Yellowstone.  Of course, the real answer is that both routes are terrific, and both are considered as being on any list of the top roads in the U.S.   Naturally, the Poudre Canyon route is especially nice, as well.

Cool to see the posts.  Thanks guys.

I tend to be amused by irony.  Thus my coments.  Prior to the nationals there were lots of posts and questions about routes, (is 14 or 14a the best route over the Bighorn Mtns?) but then it calmed down after everyone was back home.  This was the context of my first post.

My second post about the n00bs was just a quick note to say I'm out of the forum for a couple of days.

From all the CO posts, it looks like I should make it a destination of one of my trips.  Thanks for the pics Rita

Dan - The second one from the bottom is Scobey MT!  Any others I should reconize?  BTW I have an updated picture of the Poplar River Bridge on my computer.

I'm a little blue right now, so I'm typing out a little more than normal.  It was my great aunt Susie that past away, 7th of eight sisters born to Hienrich and Kathrine Unrau.  Most of the sisters ended up in the community I grew up in and aunt Susie lived only two miles from where I grew up on my fathers farm.  When my mother passed away in 1990 aunt Susie and her son and daughter-in-law (living on the same farmstead) helped Dad, my sister and I as we tried to make our way without the person that truely brought us together as a family.  I suppose part of me is just feeling sorry for myself, but this funeral was definately a passing of someone I cared for, more deeply than I realized.

I know that she is only gone from this physical world and that I can carry my memories of her with me so I will try to live as she lived life.  She was only a farmers daughter, a wife of a farmer, a long ways from the great politicians, socialites, and entertainers, but she had a happy personality that gave joy to all she came in contact with.  From what she had said to me, and what others have said, it was her faith in God that helped her through life, a life that wasn't always the easiest.  Hopefully I can share this same joy with those I come in contact with.

Anyway, aunt Susie liked driving, and I rode the bike to the funeral today.   Smile  RIP aunt Susie.

You got the Montana one right, but the other is Downs, Kansas. You want towns? I've got towns.  Here're 260 more:

...and a video with about half of them.

I had to get the Scobey one right,  Wink especially after botching the poplar river bridge.  Embarassment  I've spent several evenings on your website Dan.  You've got a lot of pics of small town USA that I enjoy seeing.

From Dan's links above I browsed his "Summary" directory - that's some collection you maintain!

I would like to know, where's this:

look's like you're lost in the file-structure...  A much better starting point is:

Anyway, that photograph was taken of Zion National Park, and is taken from the top of the arch you see in this photograph (you have to hike to that point).  I was crazy-close to the edge, and didn't realize it until after I had taken the picture.

Tough crowd...
OK.  Here's Paradise (or at least a pile of wheat in Paradise) and Nicodemus.  Plainville is pretty much right in between these two...
