I'm looking for a used speed triple and I found a 2000 Speed Triple with 22,000 miles on it.  I saw the bike yesterday and it looks like
it's in good condition and the bike sounds great and strong.  The seller is asking $4800.00 for the bike.  I offered him $4500 and I'm waiting to hear from him.  If he budges do you guys think this is a good price for this bike?

Also how is the 2000 Triple, anyhing I should look out for.  He's kept the bike stock except for a two bros high mount exhaust.

Sad fact that even your offer is high.  Nada.com reports that bike is worth $3000-$3900.  But $4500 isn't too bad for what you'd be getting.  Go for it!

Okay, I voted "No" but not because you shouldn't get the bike. I think the price is a little steep. Hell, I'm asking $5000 for my 2004 Daytona 955i with just under and have only received low ball offers of $4200 and $4300 respectively.

Also, if you really want a triple I'd look for a 2002 and onward model. Triumph changed gearboxes in 2002 and I heard they're a world of difference.

Add $200 to that offer and we might have a deal.  Bigok

I'd look for a 2002 or later model and yes, your offer is still a tad high. I sold my '04  Speed Triple for $5k, if I recall correctly.

F.W.I.W. I bought mine brand new (leftover 06 model) for $9k..

I was looking at used ones, and they were all over $5k, even for the per-1050 models, I looked at one 2000 that was right at $5k, but with under 10k on the clock, I fell in love with the sweet I3 motor.. and had to have it..

Hell no! I went from a '99 Sprint ST to a '04 model with the "improved" gearbox and it was nothing of the sort. It was far more clunky and graunchy.

But at least your '04 won't blow it's 4th gear cog like the earlier trannies were potentially capable of....

I believe that only affected T509 and T595 models produced between 1997 and 1998. Was that the one where owners had trannie blow ups out of warranty but Triumph refused to accept liability, even though they had modified the gearbox and started to sell the modified parts? Wink

So you got a bad example - they're not all like that.

I have ridden a couple of other 2004 ST's with gearboxes no different to mine. I was also loaned a 2005 Tiger for 10 days where the gearbox was even worse. I stand by my comments that the so called upgrade to the gearbox was anything but.

I voted No. If you're looking for a used Speed Triple, look for the 2002 - 2004 vintage. That price on the 2000 is too high.

If that's true you gave it away. Dang that sounds like a helluva bargain for someone, especially since you sold it a while ago.
