Hey, has anybody here had trouble with their Nolan helmet?

I've got a N-100E that has a screwed up visor. It no longer 'clicks' into place, be it open, closed or venting. It just flops around with the wind. It's bugging the hell out of me, especially with the heat. I don't like sweating my ass off with is closed, and I don't feel OK always leaving the full front flipped up, especially in town. you know, a safety thing.

What the hell do you guys think I should do? I emailed Nolan.it and my dealer. But as we all know, STN will be able to fix the problem quicker than those clowns!

They are VERY helpful and have gone above and beyond when I've made requests. It sounds like the base plate that the shield "ratchets" on is wearing down. Theyshould be able to supply you with replacement parts to fix this...

+1 on contactong CIMA. My wife lost the left trim piece that covers the shield mechanism on a ride so I emailed CIMA (helmets@aol.com) for a replacement part price. I got no email reply but about a week later got a full kit of both right and left trim covers, both shield retainers, and both of the little round covers for when you remove the VPS all at no charge.  Needless to say I was very impressed.

Thanks guys - my email exchange so far is as follows. I'm glad to hear that you guys have been taken care of, though so far it doesn't seem that they're excited to go above and beyond.

I don't see any little white pins, though I am not experienced in helmet repair. My helmet should be covered under warranty though, and I would like to know what needs to be done to have my helmet repaired or replaced. I am not particularly interested in doing my own warranty repairs at this time, unless you provide reasonable training and wages.
Is there any other option that the warranty will cover other than the option of repairing the helmet myself?

Stuart

Dear Stuart,
I offered the two usual reasons. You have to look at your helmet and see what the condition is of the little white pins, and verify if the pivot locks are located on the proper side of the helmet. From that, let us know what you find. If it was working and you did not change your shield, then more likely it has to do with the little white pins breaking or something like that, but you need to figure it out. Then if you need parts, the easiest thing is to call us.
Yours truly,
Catherine

Catherine -

I have not changed shields. Each of the options you offered involved this. The shield has not left the helmet at any time. I rode my bike to a meeting one morning; upon leaving the meeting I noticed the shield was not functioning properly. What can I do to have this taken care of?

Dear Stuart,
The problem that you are experiencing with your shield comes from a couple of possible reasons:
- the parts that hold the shield in the various positions are the little white pins located on the pivot lock on each side of the shield. These pins may have gotten damaged or broken or lost when you changed your shield.
- the pivot locks, which are the parts that hold the shield in place on each side of the helmet are "left" and "right". There's a letter on each one to indicate what side they are from. If you don't pay attention to the letter, you can put them back on the wrong side after changing the shield, they are hard to install that way, but it is still possible to do so. The white pins end up in the wrong place and they won't hold the shield up.
If this is not clear or if you need replacement white pins, please call us at the number below.
Yours truly,
Catherine

Well, I'd take a step back and take a deep breath dude... She's REA::Y trying to help you. You mean to say that you've NEVER removed the shield on your helmet??? If not, now is the perfect time to get acquainted with the mechanism, see how it works and THEN you'll see the part that she's talking about. The little white tabs are a key part of the ratcheting mechanism and DO get worn. They're hard to see with the shield in place. Check it out, that's the most likely candidate for your problem. Then ask for the parts, install then and be happy that you DIDN'T have to send the helmet out to a manufacturer, miss using the helmet for weeks  only to be told that it was a part that you could have easily replaced yourself.
