FNG here.  I'm planning an SS1k in August and I want to verify the route mileage (560 miles each way on the odometer) and check mileage for my alternate routes.  Is there an online (free) program to do this?  I really don't want to drop any money on software.  AAA has a route planner but it doesn't connect the roads very well.

http://maps.google.com/maps

They have updated the software so you now can move your start and end points and add extra destinations. I just mapped out going around Lake Michigan and I found it easy to use.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds

I'm not sure I like this,  it makes me realize just how much time I'm adding to my trips in my effort to avoid the super slabs.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't that the best part of the tour? Avoiding the super slabs for the twistys seems the better of the two even if it adds more time to the trip.
