Electric Shavers

Okay all you manly men!  I need a new shaver.  The present one, from the Phillips/Norelco Arcitec series, is p*ss poor.  It can't handle a heavy beard, the blades clog easily and don't disassemble for a good cleaning like my old shavers.

I need an electric shaver (only!) that will take on a heavy beard, give a good clean shave, and can be properly cleaned.

Recommendations, please!  I'm looking less presentable than usual, and determined to fix that.

Here's what I've been using for a few months. Coming from a Braun, the Phillips doesn't shave as close but way quicker to get it done and real easy cleaning.

Had a Norelco for years and then decided to try something different. Bought a Braun and will never buy another Norelco.

Manly men shave with a sharp axe.  

I gave up on electric shavers and use barber clippers normally used on the back of the neck.

I have a Norelco SmartTouch that I like very much. My wife bought a new Arcitec thinking it was latest/greatest.

My experience is the same as yours.  It goes on trips only cuz it sucks.

Next time around, I may try a Braun but my SmartTouch works fine, although neckwork is a bit slow.

I've used Braun for years.  Spend a little more and don't get the cheapest.  Great shavers and they last forever.  I've used them for about 20 years now.

My Brauns (I've been through three over the decades) would last about 2-3 years before they started having battery issues.

But, really, they're the only electric shavers I've owned that I thought were worth what I paid for them. If I ever go electric again, it'll be back to Braun.

My Braun 5770 is going on for 4 years now. No problems and even the newer blades last longer.

I used to love Braun, but the last two have been expensive pieces of junk. Never again. Had a similar run with Norelco, my first one lasted forever. The last one lasted a little over a year before the battery went belly up.

I used to buy pretty expensive razors, now I'm going cheap. Just bought a Remington version of the Norelco triple header for $35, we'll see how long it lasts.

My Braun 6550 was retired after 8 or 10  years of use. After 2 years resting, it has been reactivated with new cutters and foil - nothing else I tried wet, dry, whatever came close.

I've always been suspicious of a product that is only advertised twice a year (Christmas and Father's/Grads day).

After Norelco pulled Santa sliding around on the floating heads, things just were not the same.

I went back to cold steel disposable twin blades and girlie soap for my soft, wimpy skin after trying various electrics. I never really bonded with the electrics.

Because I now shave my head, I went away from twin blades for convenience sake.  I can be more sleepy and careless with an electric razor.

But yeah, twin blades give a closer, quicker shave, hands down.

Every Norelco I've seen disassembles.

I've bought two their cheapest corded razors; the older (about 20 yrs.) one is now for travel with its third set of new blades.

I have had a Remington  for about 10 -12 years.   Used it everyday, and I think the original blades are in it.  Have noticed lately that it has to be recharded more frequently.

I also have an older Remington DA-307. I've had it for years, replaced the bits and pieces a few times and she still works better than anything I've tried.

Be careful with NiCad powered shavers; don't leave them plugged in too long.
