No funny pic, but...

A couple days ago after that last snowstorm hit here Mudge, the oldest of my three cats (he's about 18 now) went missing.  He's always been an independent, indoor/outdoor, streetsmart type of cat that comes and goes freely; even when the temps drop below 32F.

So I walked around the 'hood every evening this week upon my return home from work, trying to hustle him up, but no Mudge.  Even called the pound but no cats fitting his description were there.  I figgered his number finally came up, he's probably a catsicle somewhere in the nearby frozen woods.

Just on an off chance tonite, I decided to visit the next-door neighbors (a group home for developmentally disabled adults) and give the caretaker a heads up and ask her to keep a lookout during the day.   I knocked on the door, she opened it, and there's my goddam cat stretched out on their living room sofa.  He raised his head when I walked in and gave me just a little "Yo, wassup?" kinda nod, then went back to sleep.

Turns out he's moved in with them, where he now enjoys 24/7 attention.  According to caretaker he gets along famously with her own two cats and the human residents, is becoming the alpha cat, and even sleeps on the bed with her at night.  She asked if I wanted to take him back home.  I looked at him, shrugged and said it's pretty much up to him where he wants to hang.   I did make her take some $ for cat food and litter.

Mebbe when the weather breaks he'll schmooze on back for the occasional visit.  He's very much a 'Sinatra' cat - checked out of The Aladdin; moved across the strip to The Sands.

We got one of them! Apparently abandonded as a just weaned kitty, lived with servant #1 for about a year, transferred to coworker of servant #1 (our neighbor) for 3 years, moved on to sucker(s) #3 (us) for the past 2 years. I think she's set for a while...

Quote
East Boston cat called to jury duty

BOSTON -- Duty calls for an East Boston resident.

Someone is getting called for jury duty...but it's no human.

A family is trying to figure out how their pet cat was summonsed for jury duty.

“I said, Sal, what’s this? You know, I don’t believe it I was shocked,” said Guy Esposito, Sal’s owner.

Sal’s owners, Guy and Anna Esposito, think they may know the source of the mix up: Sal really is a member of the family, so on the last Census form, Anna Esposito listed him under “pets”.

“I just wrote ‘Sal Esposito’, scratched out the ‘dog,’ and wrote, ‘cat,’” said Anna.

Anna filed for Sal’s disqualification of service. However, the jury commissioner was unmoved and denied the request.

Sal’s service date at Suffolk Superior Court is set for March 23. Anna said that if the issue isn’t cleared up by then, she will simply have to bring the cat to court.

Jury commissioner denies the request for Sal's inability to serve?  Put Sal in a carrier and march him down to court and insist that he be allowed to fulfill his civic duty.  I have a feeling that he could be bribed with catnip pretty easily though.

Because the owners, in another fit of humor, indicated on the notice that Sal doesn't read and understand  English -- w/o mentioning Sal is a cat.

My friend's mom used to vacuum her cat.  After awhile, the cat would come running when she heard the vacuum turn on.
