My heart goes out to his family and friends.  I remember hearing his name from the Central NJ crew a while back.  

I looked at his last posts to see if I ever came across him here, and saw this was one of his last posts:

Bridgewater man killed in motorcycle accident

RARITAN TWP. -- Steven Laird, 59, of Bridgewater died Sunday in a motorcycle accident on Route 31 near Mannon Excavating,356 Route 31

Laird was pronounced dead at Hunterdon Medical Center at about 10 p.m.

Police said Tommy Whagar, 51, of Newark, was driving south on Route 31 when he made a sudden left turn in front of a car driven by Richard Fallon, 59, of Clinton Township.

Fallon was able to stop his vehicle to avoid a collision with Whagar, who had come to a complete stop.

Laird, who was driving a 2003 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, was driving behind Fallon, but was unable to stop and collided with the back of Fallon's 2001 Audi.

The accident is being investigated by the Hunterdon County Fatal Accident Crash Team and Raritan Township police.

No charges have been filed.

The funeral was friday morning.  
What a character Steve was.  I really enjoyed riding with him.  This past Fall and into some of the mild winter, we would meet up on days off during the week and spend the day riding around NJ/PA.  It's tough to believe that he's really gone.  His STN signature says it all "And all the roads we ride are winding, hope all the curves aren't blinding"  He will be missed.

Keep those following distances generous. You never know why/when the guy in front of you may slam on his brakes as happened here. I know I'm guilty of it and will try to be more careful.

The C-NJ Crew has rasta to thank for its first post last year. He started the thread by asking if anyone in the area would like to get out and ride. I had the pleasure of his company on many occasions and found him to be a kindred spirit on two wheels. His typical post regarding the meet at Johnny's would be: "If I'm not there, don't wait for me." But we always did.

I'll remember our first outing where he came up to me on I78 at the fuel stop and told me that he needed to "clear the plugs" when we got back on the Interstate. From then on it was the central theme when anyone asked where rasta was someone would chime in and say.. "He's out clearing the plugs."

A goods sense of humor, hard of hearing, and his love of MotoGP will be my favorite memories.

God Speed Steve; till we ride again.
