I'm guessing the Nano will will due to the amount of owners alone, but I'm just about to buy, and I'm interested in opinions.

I have the Zen Micro Photo 8gb. I love this thing it is small and compact. I can fit it into the pocket watch pocket on my jeans with room to spare. I went with creative over the Ipod nano mainly because I hate itunes I feel that the user interface is slow and cumbersome. I have a lot of music that is .wma and I did not feel like trying to figure out how to get the songs to work on the nano if they would at all.  The only problem with the creative that I see is that there is not a lot of accessories like the ipods have.

Is the Creative Zen drag-and-drop like a removeable drive?  I don't like to use iTunes or other proprietary software (Sony has it too) to load up the player.

Take a look at the Sandisk Sansa e200 series. It has gotten very good reviews and is similar to the Nano. I bought one and really like it. Also plays videos and has an FM tuner.

I just got my wife an IPOD.  I like it.  I even like the software for it.  Just hook it up and it updates the contact list, playlists, it even holds photos.  The software even readjusts the pictures so they take up very little space on there.  She wants to get a Chocolate phone so I may get the IPOD as a handme down soon.

I've also got a Phillips 1gb MP3 player that I love for the drag-and dropability.  Not to mention I don't have to have it hooked to a computer to charge like the IPOD so if I need to get batts on the road its not a big deal.
