I saw a cruise control that used a small lever that went mounted under the right switch housing, using the hole that is at the bottom of the housing on most bikes. I saw it at Daytona during last year's Biketoberfest, in one of the tents. I think the demo was on a Beemer. I had a business card but for the life of me I cannot find it now. Anyone know what I am talking about, or know of a similar kit? I think it sold for under $30.

It was something like this but a complete kit (this is from an eBay auction that includes nothing but the little lever):

I had an NEP on my F3 and loved it, sadly it will not fit on the '98 Bandit because there is no space between the throttle grip and switch housing on the tube, due to Suzuki's design of the throttle tube. The aftermarket grip won't even go all the way over it, it has a very bulky end on the switch side. If you've seen a Bandit without grips you'll know what I mean.

I want cruise control for my upcoming ride to Deals Gap but can't be spending too much money on it. Besides, most of the pricey units work with the the barend weights, and I have mirrors there instead (handlebars are filled with BB's to cut down on the vibes).

Any suggestions or any info on the kit I am talking about will be greatly appreciated.

The one in the pic is just an aftermarket friction screw on a Harley.Harley's have them stock.I don't like anything that locks the throttle but that's my problem.Try the Throttle Rocker or Vista-Cruise.

That's what I see too. Without the Harley friction internals, you wouldn't be able to fit this.

+1

that is a lever added to the stock harley screw. It worked fine for me when i had my harley. I was always able to close the throttle when the screw was engaged and i needed to.

I have not seen this type of throttle lock offered aftermarket.

Thanks, guys. I know the one in the pic is just for Harleys, but at Daytona they were offering something similar but it was a complete kit.

I find the Throttle Rocker fairly useless for high-speed cruising, it can end up so far down on the throttle that the palm of your hand can barely reach it. I first had it on a Kawi EX500, then a CBR600F3. I didn't like it on either bike, though it's better than nothing. I still have mine tucked away somewhere in a box. And the Vista-Cruise won't fit on my bike, that's what I had on the F3.

I only use the cruise control for a few minutes at a time, on a quiet stretch of road, to get some feeling back into my hand. I used to hate slabbing it in a straight line all day (I live in Miami, Florida; takes most of the day just to get out of here), but the NEP made it a lot easier.

I just reach across and hold the throttle with my left hand for a minute.I have had some success recently with using my thumb/forefinger area to hold the throttle while raising the outer part of my hand off the grip.Getting old sucks so I'm going to stop doing it. Lol

I don't know if I wanna try that at speed... One pothole too many, a little overcompensation from using the wrong hand to steer from the right, and I'm going down. But I have thought of it Crazy Wink

Doug, I saw that in a Google search but I don't know if that will fit my bike. The grip is not chrome but it does have that extra bulk at the end of the throttle tube, like I had mentioned, so it should be able to grab onto it. I'll have to take a look at my bike to see. Thanks for the links, I had only seen one of them and wasn't sure if, like the one I posted, it was bike-specific.

Gabriel,
Take a look at a Universal Vista Cruise. It fits bikes outside the "norm".
One end attaches to the handlebars and the other actually encircles
the throttle grip. May not be the most elegant solution but highly
functional nonetheless.

This is what i am currently using. It is not the prettiest but works OK and allows the needed hand rest for the CTS to fade Rolleyes

Thanks, I looked at it the shop and didn't look like it would work. They have them for $35. I think I'll pick it up this weekend and try it out, I didn't realize it went over the actual grip.

I finally found the business card for the throttle lock, it is called the Sturgis Throttle Mate and looks just what I posted in the pic. But the lady claimed that I did not need anything else, only that there should be a hole between the two throttle cables on the CBR, the bike I had at the time. Headscratch

Anyway, I went ahead and ordered the Universal Vista Cruise, I'll modify my rubber grip to make it fit. Thanks for all the help. Can't wait to finally get on the road again!

Greetings,

1st post, just found the site ( looking for Mount Weather ride info )...

Anyway, I wasn't having good luck with the throttle lock, or throttlemeister and it was giving me fits.  In fact, I hadn't done any distance of significance in years...  I implemented a generic cage cruise control unit, and it wasn't hugely difficult.

I know, I know...   NeedPics

I did it as follows:
