Install an Ivans jet kit and hold on!!!! Ivan also has an R1 cam setup for the first gen FZ1, I remember someone on the
www.yamahafz1oa.com
board installing it and was very close to 160 hp at the reat wheel.
Congrats on the new bike and enjoy!

Respring is necessary for proper handling.
Revalve suspension if you can afford it.
California Suspension Works or Traxxion do rear shock mods well worth the money. ($300-400 approx)
Ivansperformanceproducts.com jet kit and..
PJSPARTS.COM can be helpful

Ivans and a Yosh I made 130 to the rear wheel on the dyno. I left the suspension alone except to dial it in and it handled fine. Lower the bars with yamaha's kit and their titainum bars and it feels alot better. I miss mine sometimes I put 25,000 on it and it never let me down. Dunlop 208s make it stick like glue
Enjoy and congrats

Bike is sprung for 140 lb rider, works well anyway (good chaise).
Gyrt (yamaha) lower risers and Ti bar no longer available new. Gen2 bar favored by sportier set. D208s were good, Pilot Powers current fav.

Any pictures of the lowered bars? Clip ons or just a different handlebar?

http://www.suburban-machinery.com/yamaha1.htm
has some nice low bars for the 1st Gen FZ1
Someone over at
http://www.yamahafz1oa.com
probably has some GYTR 'risers' they would sell (I'd sell you mine but I like them too much). You can use both the 'risers' and the S2 bars to get sport bike low if you want.
There really isn't too much off the R1 engine that will fit. Get in touch with Ivan at:
http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com
and he will take you from mild to wild. NO ONE knows more about the FZ1 engine than he does. Another good source of information and performance parts is Dale over at
http://www.holeshot.com
I have his jet kit/advancer with slip on combo and really like it a lot.
And for everything else:
