3-29-2015. Ride around Lake Eufaula.

Sunday, March 29th, we went for a country-road ride around the western end of the lake. Lake Eufaula is the largest lake in Oklahoma, covering 105,500 surface acres with 600 miles of shoreline.

We parked the truck at Lake Henryetta and rode out from there.

The spillway. I wonder what year it was built?

We crossed an old iron bridge over the North Canadian River. Built in the 70's.

We saw a grass/forest fire in the distance and stopped for a pic.

This old couple pulled up on their atv. He introduced the lady as his girlfriend, then began telling us his life story. He was a former cop, bass player in a country band, current fireman, and somewhat of a real estate tycoon - well, as much as you probably can be in that area. His dad was a moonshiner. He was very good-natured and kept going for probably thirty minutes. We finally said that we had to get riding. He told us where his place was and said to stop by next time we were there. He directed us to the scenic route and we were on our way.

When we got to the bottom of this valley, it was flooded. The water covered the road for about 200 feet. There was a meth trailer with a junky sportbike nearby and I was going to ask them about the depth but they never came out. We turned around.

We had a short stretch of highway where I saw this cool old rock building.

Then we were back on the country roads.

With more water crossings. But these were passible.

This old crane was standing guard over this prized fishing pond.

We turned down a one-lane, rutted road to find a nice view of the river.

I spotted an old, overgrown roadbed which apparently was the road of death. The road ended in the river.

We turned south into the prairie land and found more mud and water.

She lifts her feet. I just get wet.

We found an excellent investment property. A fixer upper.

And a closed bridge. Needless to say, we went around the barriers.

We rode into the little town of Eufaula for a late lunch. I had googled the local highly recommended café. Of course, it was closed. Nothing was open but fast food places. We chose Braum's.

After lunch, we headed back toward the truck. We passed under I-40 a couple times.

I had Lisa get a pic of me popping a wheelie.

A moment of worship before continuing on.

This guy flagged us down but he must've been an illegal. He couldn't speak English.

Further on down the road...

Something else caught my eye. Look way out in the field.

Zoomed.

Surprisingly, no bullet holes.

Shaken by the frightening encounter, we headed back to the truck to get out of there.

A little muddy, 111 miles later, only one fall/drop each.

Thanks. I thought there might be a lack of interest since the majority of them are on dual-sport bikes which doesn't really fit in on this forum. But I'll keep posting them until I run out.

4-03-2015: Lisa was at work and I had an hour to kill, so I went for a quick, local ride here in Broken Arrow.

A pond down just down the street.

An abandoned oil well and tanks.

The Arkansas River. Edit: this location is fenced off now.

A vacant field where we often go to watch meteor showers. Edit: This is a subdivision now.

Which led to a creek.

A historical marker on the way home.

Ride time, one hour and one minute. I was never more than seven miles from home.

That's the good thing about riding dual-sport bikes, you don't have to have good roads.

Saturday, April 4th, we rode over to the touristy town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. We go a couple times a year.

Here are a few pic's for your enjoyment.

First, we rode by Beaver Lake.

We stayed in this cabin last year - didn't have the cash this year.

We ate at the Angler's Inn. It's an excellent fish restaurant. It's become our regular place there.

Downtown Eureka Springs.

We went inside. The working bunnies were nowhere to be found.

Basin Park Hotel. This lady was all smiles. I think she thought I was taking her picture.

They had an impromptu percussion jam session in the Basin Park.

It was diversity weekend. I didn't recognize any STN members in that crowd.

After we had enough of the hippy, drumming stuff, we went for ice cream.

When I said to Lisa, "let's have the Big Dipper," the guy in the rainbow suit's eyes lit up.

There is a Harley shop next door. Their marketing campaigns crack me up. Obviously, they are very effective though.

We spent the night in the luxury suites.

We had lots of activities and rides planned for the next day but we woke up to rain. The radar showed it lasting most of the day so we just headed home. The first one hundred miles was wet and cold - it was 50 degrees. We were miserable when we got home. We hadn't had a rainy ride lately so we figured we were overdue.

I partially made up for it yesterday, April 5th, by riding to work, then going for a lunch ride in Mohawk Park.

This is the backside of the elephant compound at the zoo.

Across the tracks and headed back to work.

Is that Bigfoot standing to the right of the train tracks ?

Riding to work is most excellent because during the ride home the work day is quickly forgotten

4/19/2015: We took about a 230 mile ride around the Lake Tenkiller area.

Camp Gruber.

Some of the local residents.

We gassed up here.

Tenkiller Dam and spillway.

Clean, clear water - the top diving lake in the state.

Wet spring, makes green.

Iron bridge over Dry Creek (which is about twenty feet deep.)

WTF is this?

About halfway through the ride, we stopped at a little lakeside restaurant for lunch. As we were removing our gear, I heard a voice say, "I recognize those bikes." A guy walked up and said, "My name's Dale." We introduced ourselves and he said that he had seen some of our pic's on the ADV site. He owned property in the area and was doing some work there...

We got caught in a rain and hailstorm about thirty miles from home. Hail hurts even with leather gloves on. It didn't rain a drop at our house.

A few pic's from the Brookside Motorcycles vintage bike show, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 4-26-2015.

We hung out with a couple of our riding buddies, Alan and Becky.

We brought our '73 Yamaha and Alan brought his old Bultaco.

Some of the also rans:

I believe that's the late, great Greg Bush in the orange shirt. Edit: Greg was another of our buddies. He had several vintage bikes and cars. He was driving one of his old cars one night and was in an accident (not his fault) that took his life.

Lisa's favorite:

Cool CZ:

A scooter for STN riders:

And the best looking bike there, in my opinion:

5/02/2015: We rode up to the college town of Stillwater, OK to meet for our annual Eskimo Joe's luncheon.

We were among the early birds. That's me in the black sweatshirt. STNer AviationFred in the red and black.

We had an hour wait so we hung around outside as the rest of the riders came in.

The lady in the middle rides an FZ1 and has over 230,000 miles on it. You guys should be ashamed.

I'll bet some cool people ride these two bikes.

Our fan club showed up.

Dinner time came and the picture taking ended.

After lunch we rode over to my daughter's place about twenty-five miles away. She was gone to grandma's but my son-in-law was there working on the garage. He's getting ready to put up a fence and they're going to run about ten head of cattle.

I'm envious, I want their place.

We rode over to Grandma's and spent a couple hours with my grandson. He's getting to be a fatty. It wore me out just holding him.

He yells at Lisa just like I do.

Motorcycles, friends, food, kids, and grandkids. It was a good day.

Beautiful baby  Bigok

FJ 1200 with hard luggage that is made for the bike.  Back when sport touring bikes still had some sex appeal.
