Hi everyone,

I am interested in perhaps starting a Rally or MiniRally in the Charlotte/Concord area of NC. I did the "Feast in the East" MiniRally a few years ago( places in the top 10!) and loved it. I see on rallyrasters.org that there is only one other rally in NC, the Cape Fear Rally.  Does anyone have any info on how to start something like this? If I were to get it going, do you have any thoughts on how long to have it, be it 11 hours or 24?

It just seems like a shame to not have a good  IB-style rally here in NC since the riding is so good. Concord is a good place to start on since there are  three interstate highways close(77, 85, 40) and I am sure I could get sponsorship from one of the many dealers here. Actually, I am a "good customer" of  the largest dealer in the area... Please give me  your thoughts!

go for it!    not enough of these events exist, IMO.  The ones that do seem to start a day's ride or more away from where I am at.  I'd like to see at least one set up in every state so that lots more people have the opportunity to try them.

Would love to see one in Concord, Charlotte, or anywhere in that vicinity.

Mustang,
I think that is a superb idea!

I have always wanted to try a 12/24 hour rally, but have never been able to find one close enough, that I didn't have to do a ss1k to get there...

I'm over in knoxville, tn and could make a 3day weekend to run a rally closeby like that...

I have never run a rally of that nature, but have run several local scavenger hunts here i knoville for various originisations... if you need idea's or what-not, let me know and I will help however I can ( but not to the point that I can't ride in the rally)...hehe

ken

p.s.

Here is one thought I was kicking around the other day...

Why do rallies have to start at a common locale??
Could it be possible to have multiple start locations (say 3 or 4 cities where someone has agreed to hand out packets), and one common end location ( undisclosed until you get your packets)

Or maybe email out the bonus packets a day before the rally starts... or fax them or something?

I'm planning a Colorado 24hr rally for 2008. Email Michael Kneebone and Ira Agins at the IBA, they are valuable resources and willing to help. The tough part is getting insurance for your event. If you leave off the words "endurance", and "long distance" it makes it easier. Good luck with your event. and there is another event in that area, http://www.beastintheeast.org.

Check out "The Void" running out of Lynchburg, VA in October (close to NC).

Was started to fill the void left by the disappearance of the FITE.

I hope to see this happen.  I hope it's a spring or fall event.  It's too darn hot around here for long rides like that in the summers.

Several of the folks in our RAT pack have been discussing something like this too.  I sure we would support it, as most likely would BMW-Ducati-Triumph Motorcycles of Charlotte.

Put a route plan together on Group Rider.com?

You might want to contact Jim Bain, the rallymaster of the Cape Fear Rally.  He'd likely be a wealth of local and rally information for you.  The only e-mail address that I have for him is:

Not sure if the original poster is aware, but there IS an Iron Butt Association ride (Saddle Sore 1000) that starts and stops in Matthews, NC (just SE of Charlotte).

It will be held June 9-10, looks like an interesting event!

Details (and links to the REAL details!) here:
