Potential spoilers throughout this entire thread.

(Borrowing from both various threads here and a popular, long running thread on the FZ1OA Forum)

What movies have you watched lately either at the theater, on DVD or TV that you'd recommend seeing (or steering clear)?

Saturday Night Fever.

My 8 year old daughter (Worlds Bestest) fell in love with Travolta after watching Grease, so I needed for her to see this. Of couse my finger always on the fast forward button as there were MANY parts not appropriate for her.

She watched the dance scenes 10+ times, and I even got to record her dancing to it, copying him.

Recommend - Flags of Our Fathers and follow up with Letters From Iwo Jima
Recommend - American Gangster, I think it was one of Denzel's best performances. I'm not a big Russel Crowe fan but he was pretty good as well.  The movie was about 3 hours long but it didn't seem that long at all.

Steer Clear - Tenacious D - The Pick of Destiny... I am dumber for even loading it into the DVD player... Hurl

Recently seen on DVD:

"Last King Of Scotland":  Forrest Whitaker is superb in the role of Idi Amin.  Not as gory as I thought it would be.  Too bad they had to insert a fictional honkey to tell the story of this monster.

"This Film Is Not Yet Rated" :  An eye-opening documentary about the MPAA that controls the ratings for literally every single movie shown in this country on the silver screen.  Put together by some indy film directors, who obviously feel they got screwed with the 'NC-17' Kiss Of Death.  Assuming the movie's factual, the MPAA is kinda like every conspiracy theory you've ever read/heard about the Scientologists, Illuminati, Trilateral Commission and Skull & Bones combined.  At least Michael Moore is absent on this one, thank Gawd.

"The Corn Dog Man"

You'll either say "see it" or "steer clear", no inbetween.

Seen at the theater last weekend:

"Ratatouille"  An absolute gem.  Splendid animation, and I love caricatured French people in any form.

I forgot another good movie (I don't know how seeing as my 4 year old watches it several times a week on DVD):

Night at the Museum - very funny.

I can see why my son loves that movie - when I was a young lad I LOVED watching Bednobs and Broomsticks (I would say I'm dating myself but most of you in here are old coots!).  Bigok

+1.  Really good movie.

I'm having trouble thinking of some good ones.  Last one I saw was Transformers, and while the computer animation was good, it wasn't really that memorable.

+1 on Night at the Museum.

Can't wait to see the Simpsons Movie!

Not a new movie but it's a good'n, really good considering it cost about $7000 to make.

When I was a kid my mom took me and a friend to see that one and we liked it so much we just sat in the theater until the next showing.

Lately I've watched Serenity, Decasia, Citizen Kane, M, and Limbo.

Transformers and Live Free or Die Hard were both great action flicks. Pretty typical mindless viloence, explosions etc.....but always entertaining to watch!  Bigsmile

Thumbs up: Blood Diamond (and I can't stand the twerp star, either)
Motorcycle Diaries - has little to do with motorcycles, really, but it's a good flick.

We watched something God-awful recently; fortunately, I completely forget what it was.

Approved:  "Thank You for Smoking" - one of the best scripts I've ever heard.  Truly fun flick.

Pass:  "Children of Men" - huge dissappointment.  So much more they could have done with it.
