Revenge of the Electric Car - streaming on Netflix and Hulu. I pretty in depth look at where the electric car manufacturers are headed, and where they came from. Very well made documentary.

On this recommendation I watched it the last two nights- like DD said- well made and a cool film.   Thumbsup

There's a good one on how GM killed their electric car in spite of a loyal customer base, a growing infrastructure, and the existing "leasees" offering to buy their cars when it was clear GM was going to crush them.

Here it is:

Both done by the same guy,

I've seen the GM, very good. The wife and I both enjoyed it. It's absolutely ridiculous how GM handled that.

I'll have to look for Revenge this weekend.

I liked Real Steel, but I can be cheesy like that.  Will check out some of the other recommendations.  Good thread.  Forgot all about Atlas Shrugged.  Read the book years and years ago and liked it.

Chronicle: We liked it ok enough. It was simply that we've had our fill (a long time ago) with the handi-cam style of filming.

We watched two movies over the weekend.

Saturday night we watched Zookeeper with Kevin James. It was funny enough to justify the absurdity of talking animals. We both like Kevin James; he nails physical comedy. He'll fall, flail, dance, drop, trip, belly flop, etc. for a laugh and he sells it. The plot was admittedly mediocre, but the laughs were there.

Sunday night we watched The Change-Up with Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman. Single slacker and his married-with-kids-trying-to-make-law-partner best friend have a "Freaky Friday" experience where they trade bodies/lives. Pretty funny and deserving of its R-rating - copious F-bombs, at least three topless women, and Leslie Mann's ass. Olivia Wilde also stars. Probably the best part, IMO, was when Mitch (the single guy) in Dave's body/life had to tend to Dave's twin babies (changing/feeding).

Red Tails.  Big fat meh.  Dog fighting scenes were top notch.  Acting was bland.  I had no emotional investment in the characters so when things inevitably happened, it didn't matter to me.  Several pivotal scenes, or what COULD have been pivotal, were cut leaving me thinking "Is that IT?!?!"  Too many side stories that didn't draw me in, just caused the movie to feel rather disjointed and herky jerky.  Definitely could have been better in many ways.  Visuals, 4.5/5.  Story, 2/5.  Acting 1/5.

Chronicle.  I thought it was decent.  Effects were decent until the end, when I didn't find all the mayhem as believable.  Story was engaging, and a lot more "realistic" considering the subject matter, than I expected it to be.  There were a few questions at the end that took me out of the story, like *minor spoiler* how the one guy was always the strongest, able to do the most with his abilities, and suddenly at the end, here is this guy who was the weakest, now able to stand up to the onslaught.  Visuals 4/5.  Story 3.5/5 Acting 4/5.

A really good story, told well -- I particularly liked the realism, the lack of a suggary sweet ending, but the fact that, in spite of that, the tone was hopeful . . . . .

Just saw Warrior, the family story about two estranged brothers that end up in an MMA tournament, which includes Nick Nolte as their now sober alcoholic dad.  Done very well - thought it would be a cheesy MMA movie, but it was way more about the people.  Nicely done.  4/5 stars.

Also saw Green Lantern - meh.  Pretty good, but not really up to snuff.

I found the movie somewhat similar to The Savages, the 2007 flick starring Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Dirty Girl: Quirky coming-of-age movie. It was okay, but only just. Mary Steamburgen and Mila Jovavich helped glue it together IMO.

I passed on seeing it, because I saw the 1985 HBO movie Tuskegee Airmen (which I thought was very good), and everyone I've talked to that has seen both  said Tuskegee Airmen was better.

Yes, it was much better.  The only thing Red Tails was better at was the effects of the planes flying and dying.

Warrior.  I watched this the other day and I was surprised how much I liked it.  Some of the fighting, especially the older brothers matches, was a bit unbelievable, but overall I would also give it a solid 4/5.
