Watch out, a region 1 goofball has entered your domain.

I'm fortunate enough to be taking a week off in late September for my 30th birthday.  The plan is to ride to Moab UT and hang out.  My fascination is mostly because I've never been there and I want to see the land bridges.  The question is:  What sites in southern UT should I definately try to take in?     I've already browsed old threads for roads I should hit and I've planned my route accordingly (thank you).  But what actual things should I see?  What's worth getting off the bike to be a tourist for?  This basically includes all of southern UT.

At the moment I'll be coming into UT after blitzing across highway 50 in NV.  When I leave UT I'll likely be heading towards Las Vegas.  In case any of that matters.

Thanks in advance.

Naw, don't go to Moab/Arches NP,
Why would you want to look at stuff like this??
Or this at Natural Bridges NP
Or this at Bryce NP
Or even Zion..
Naw, don't waste your time in Utah.....  Smile
enjoy the heck out of it....

Plenty of short hikes in Arches National Park. Dead Horse Point State Park is a great catch at sunset  Close to town. Also the La Sal loop through Castle Valley is a scenic as well the road get a little rough in the higher elevation.

If you're heading for Vegas afterward....take 191 south to Blanding, then 95 up to Hanksville via Hite Marina (take the scenic pullout there). From Hanksville, thru Capital Reef to Torrey, then south on 12 thru the Grand Staircase. Great road, surprised you don't have 12 million replies telling you to take it.
In Torrey, there's a couple of great restaurants on the west end of the main road (Capital Reef Inn, Diablo Grill or something like that). Plenty of lodging here.....I plan a night's stay in Torrey on most trips thru Utah if it works.

From Bryce/Ruby's Inn, take 89 down and go thru Zion if it's a weekday....even a weekday in summer is going to be RV clogged, but it's a short ride thru the park so it's not horrible.

When you get to Glendale/Logandale/Overton turnoff on I-15 coming in from Mesquite, take the lakeshore drive into Vegas north of Lake Mead. I lived in Vegas for 8 yrs.... that road (toll thru park now) is good scenery and beats hell out of I-15 thru the heat.
If Zion doesn't sound good - take 14 past Duck Creek area to Cedar City on I-15.

Southern Utah, you ask?

Canyonlands N.P. is close to Moab, and well worth the trip. Very scenic, with some sweet roads.

Arches N.P. Do it.

Hwy 128 from 191 to I70. Plus La Sal loop.

Monument Valley

Capitol Reef N.P.

Hwy 12

Bryce & Zion N.P.s

Cedar Breaks N.M.

So much to see and some fine backroads. You're going to love it.

If you are camping, take some hikes to really get a sense of the beauty.

Hey dude, (we've eaten dinner twice but right now I can't remember your name!  Nuts)

You're on the right track with this post. This area is really best seen on foot. Every time I get off the bike and go for a hike I am rewarded.

I've hiked in Bryce. It was awesome. I forget the name of the trail, but it was at the end of the road, down past Ruby's. Spent an hour or two tramping amongst the hoodoos. Really great. Lots of other tourists, but that was OK. Only the adventurous ones bother getting out of the car.

I've hiked in Arches. Again, at the parking lot at the end of the road, there's a trail marked "primitive." You follow the little stacks of rocks. Really, really nice. Not a lot of people. There are other great hikes in Arches. I've not hiked out to Delicate Arch (the license plate one) but I bet that's fun too. Might be crowded.

I've heard that Zion has some great hiking areas, and you need to take a shuttle bus to get to them. No personal experience.

Highway 12 seems to have some good trails, but I'm too busy enjoying the road to ever stop. Please if you find good hiking there, let me know. Some day I'll slow down. Smile

I think you can only get to Rainbow Bridge on foot or boat. Dont' know the details, google does. Probably be a nice place to visit if you like natural bridges.

Have a great time, take lots of pix.

I have my southwest trip detailed on my old site....from my old ISP, I haven't paid in years...but somehow I can still access it and post.

Utah is BEAUTIFUL. You need to go on hwy 12---- AMAZING ROAD. We were about 120 miles north of Tropic Utah, we had to stop due to a very high winds...we ask the woman in the hotel how far we were...she mentioned 120 miles or so...Oh...great we will be there in about 2 hours! "oh, no honey...not on that road....it will take you about 5 to 6 hours..."

TWISTY, TWISTY, TWISTY....TWISSSSSTY. There is one part of the road that rides on the edge of a hogback...both sides of the road fall off to canyons-- and you are left on a twisty-ridge road with 360 degree views.

Watch out for Deer, and the very oddly placed Cattle Guards on the APEX of the CURVES IN THE ROAD. ...that sent out bike sliding two feet to the right....SKETCHY!
