La Route Napoleon from Nice to Gap is one helluva motorcycle road...if you like fast sweepers  Bigsmile

The south of France is dominated by le Massif Central, a formerly volcanic region that makes for some great motorcycling.

The Gorges de l'Ardeche near Le Puy is surrounded some great roads.

It's not the destination, it's the journey.  Which is good, because my navigation sucks.
All roads lead to Ausfahrt.

Yup...spectacular riding down along that southern section.

... not quite... its more central south east. If you're planning on zipping down to the south coast in a day... be sure to add a good few hours if you go via the Central.

Any suggestions on the routes around Nice, France.
Approx 2-4 days in length.

Depends what you'll looking for.

I prefer the out-of-the-way backroads over main roads and sweepers.

Instinct took me over the D59 and D428 from La Bollinette on the D2205 through Ilonse and Pierlas to the Gorges du Cians. What incredible sights from high up in the mountains and thats just one of countless roads like them in the area.

BTW, if you are looking for accomodations, I stayed at Chez Michel in Castangiers, in the hills just north of Nice.

Here is the route, I've ended up doing. 3 days, ~900 km, no hassle, very relaxed pace.

Has anyone ridden through this area in February? I may be in Valbonne( between Nice and Cannes ) for a couple of weeks in February with the possibility of a 3 or 4 day ride.

Any knowledge of rentals in the area.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Orson,

I don't fully understand the Ad-Mo concept. It seems to be a loose affiliation of rental companies or some sort of designation. The listings for Toulouse appear to be this company

 http://www.missionmotos.biz/Motorcycle-motorbike-hire-rental-france-spain-toulouse-carcassonne-600-cc.html

They offer winter deals and can be contacted directly. Unfortunately I confused Toulouse with Toulon  and they are quite far from where I will be.

Ok I found the web site for the Nice  listing

http://www.holiday-bikes.com/

Now what about the weather??

It can snow to the north and northwest of Nice – Sisteron, Gap, Barcelonette – in February. I would recommend a ride along the coast to the Cinque Terra. It's a string of about five villages halfway between Genoa and La Spezia. Good restaurants, beautiful views and good roads.

Did you ever rent a motorcycle in Nice?  I'm looking for a 1 day rental, preferably with gear.  The AdMo Tour link looks like a 3 day minimum.

No couldn't make it work. My daughter is still in France so maybe next time I'm there.

Good Luck.
