The orange/checkered version you refer to was an 883R model. Don't believe that paint scheme is offered this year. The point was to make it look sorta-kinda like a flat-tracker, but the bike itself was a dog. I liked the looks, but not the amount of work it would take to make it into something. Been there/done that with my Sportster Sport, which at least started with a better engine and suspension.

I like this new Sporty, can't wait to try one out. But the first thing I would do is dump the cans and put on a Vance & Hines Pro-pipe or SS2R. That is, if they make them for the new model, but I'd bet they will.  Smile

I actually don't mind the cans... they grew on me. Ideally, though, I'd like a one-per-side system with chrome reverse-cone megaphones (like the Norton VR880).  Inlove

Like 1K, the XR12's pipes have grown on me, too... but I'd like to see some high pipes like on the XR1000 pic above. If it makes production, hopefully the aftermarket will step up and provide.

Is HD starting to step on Buell's toes?

Doubt it.  A Sportster will never run or put on the moves like a Buell.  They don't even feel remotely similar.

Kootenanny posted this from a show a few weeks back.  Interesting variant but gains an air cleaner.  I like the cleaner (no pun intended) look of the RR.

Here's a pic of my 2004 Sportster 1200 custom. This pic is ~2 years old, and I have a set of Vance & Hines StarightShot pipes on it now, but the bike looks the same otherwise. It has a Mustang seat on it (as well as passenger seat). Extremely comfortable!!!

Here's a lieelt better pic of the seat.
