I've found that this works brilliantly - looks super clean - & cost me less than $20 ($18 of which was the RAM-B-252 base plate).  Keeps my Zumo under my lower '05/'06 windscreen, doesn't obstruct my view of the instruments, won't bump my tank bag even at full left lock, & doesn't block access to the ignition switch.  Plus, when the GPS is off the bike, the big ungly RAM ball is tucked away nice & low and is barely noticeable.

I noticed that the holes through which the handlebars are bolted go all the way through the top triple.  So, I removed the front left handlebar screw & replaced it with a 15mm longer socket head cap screw, then placed the RAM-B-252 base plate up under the top triple, using a nut & washer to hold it in place.  The nut & washer I just had laying around the parts bin in my garage.  I'm probably going to head back to the hardware store & replace them with a flanged nylock nut.

Nicely done!  I like how clean the mounting appears from above.

Very nice.

Makes much more sense than the $237 I spent for the Triumph mount for my 2610.  Although I do like the new universal steering stem mounts.

Spaz,
I am glad you posted this. I was just about to spend a few bills at Gadget Guy for a mount but yours is more practical and ALOT less expensive.

Thanks,
Brad

If you bought a Zumo, the bracket that comes with it works just fine.  Ask Stripes for some pictures of how he's got his mounted.

I don't have any pictures right now, but when I get back home I'll be more than happy to snap a couple. I'll try to send them to you tonight as well. I'm just using the mount with the u-clamp that goes around the handlebar that came in the box. I was going to do something like the others have done but it seems like a pain in the ass to reach over the tank bag to type or look at directions. The way mine is I just turn my eyes slightly left and there it is, and I have it mounted on the left handlebar so typing things in is a piece of cake while in motion.

spaz_666, Man, I don't know if it's just me or the pic, but that mounting ball sure looks like it would hit the instrument cluster when turnig the wheel hard right. Don't take offense, I just woke up and my eyes probably aren't fully adjusted yet!

Hey burmbuster, I can't get the pics small enough to fit on here... If you want to send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send them that way.

Cheers

Looks like it would work for a lap timer for those of us who are squids instead of serious mile munchers.  Measuring how fast you can go around in circles seems kinda pointless unless you are completely addicted. Bigok

Why would I take offense?

These pix are at full right lock... (click to view larger)

... There's actually more clearance than how these shots make it look.

As far as the handle bar u-clamp thing that came with the zumo - I could never get it set up on my Sprint so that the GPS wouldn't bump my tank bag near full left lock.

It works just fine, however, on my Futura because the Futura's tank plug is off-set to the right.  Because the Luggage Locker tank bag attaches to the tank plug ring, the bag would sit slightly to the right, which gives enough clearance for the GPS using the handle bar clamp method.

Sorry for resurecting an old thread, but...

This write up rocks!  I just did this to my Sprint ST over the weekend.  Amazing.  Plus, it's easy to unmount and lock in the panniers.

Props Spaz_666.  Great job mounting this!

I just removed one of the top bolts (same one used here I think), and put a ball mount (one of the mirror style jobs, kinda 45 degrees) right under it.  It's a bit more in your face, but I use a short arm and if it was mounted underneath it would be hard to get to the knob.

Lots of places to mount them on a sprint...
