I have a 1999 X1, love it.  Bought it in July '05 with same miles, 16xxx.  Now has 28k.  All the quirks were worked out by previous owner.  Def check out the bad web.  That is where I found mine. My primary use is commuting.  I've only took it on one trip but looking to do another soon due to the great time I had on it.

I really enjoy the ride.  Nice position, comfortable and great torque.  Also, the maintenance is stupid easy.  During a trip earlier in the year, I was getting 60mpg on it.  I see average 50-55mpg every tank with mixture of city and highway riding.  Also, I have a great dealer nearby.  Good dealer service is a plus.

My only complaint is that I want a XB now and can't part with it, really.  Also, it has been a struggle finding panniers for it.  Nothing else.  BUT, the previous owner worked out ALL the bugs.

Check out my signature.  Great for sport-touring and commuting.

Good luck! Bring your check book! It will be hard to say no after a test ride. Tell us what you think.  We always like to hear first impressions.
