Next week I'm headed from LA up to SF north to Lassen Volcanic Park, then north to Crater Lake in OR.  I'll cut over OR across Idaho and head to Yellowstone, coming south through the Tetons.  Do you have suggestions for the route home from there?  I'm hesitant to come through Utah, Nev. and AZ, due to the heat.

Should I head back the way I came or am I over-reacting?  I hit 110 degree weather going to Yosemite a month ago.  Not fun so I'm not anxious to go for days through 100 degree temps.

Maybe go thru CO then head west to UT and hit AZ and the Grand Canyon?

I just don't know.  I got a great route there but can't decide on coming back.  Can you help me figure this out?

I did the following route from Tetons a few years back and it kicked ass road and sights-wise. Highlights include Million Dollar highway in Colorado, Mokee Dugway, Hwy 12, Natural Bridges, Capitol Reef, Bryce, Zion in Utah, just to name a few.

Though, it's gonna be hot for sure, except for a very brief rest in the higher parts of CO. Suck it up and see the sights or be a pussy and run back the way you came  Lol.

P.S.

You didn't give enough info with your request, like how many days you have to get back...

that does look like a great route back.  Thanks for the suggestion.  But I'm still interested in feedback from anyone in those areas on how hot it will be.

I've got 10- 11 days total for the trip.

Just go to accuweather.com and type in city, state from a few points along the route.

Hot spots along the way:

Vernal, UT
Dinosaur,CO
Cortez, CO
Bluff, UT
Henryville,UT

Cooler spots along the way:

Silverton, CO
Tropic, UT

I checked a few of them and was surprised to see sub-100 highs for just about the whole route except for Vegas. Not bad.
