Hi all, I've been invited to a weekend campout at Indian Scotty Campground in Fort Jones, CA, near Yreka. I'll leave after work on Friday, camp somewhere along the way, and ride home on Sunday.
I'm torn between taking  5-36-3 (shorter by about 2.5 hours) and 101-Alderpoint Rd.-36-3.

Anyone with experience on these roads? Recommendations? Thanks!

Do you have a chance to take 1?  I'd recommend 1-101-36-3 .  Alderpoint Rd. was a disapointment for me, pretty bad condition with lots of stretches of gravel.

You can also take 101 -128- mountain view road - 1 - 36 - 3

I can personally attest to the "ass kickingness" of that route.  Wink

5 - 36 - 3 would be my choice.  I like the east part of 36 better than the west.  3 up to Callahan is also really tight.

5???

Don't take 5 unless you really feel you need to do that. If you have to slab it, 101 would be my choice. I guess it depends on what time you have to be at your destination, but the trip up there could be really fun if you have some time to ride anything other than I-5   Sleepy

The 5 doesn't make sense from Oakland as you have to head way east to catch it. The 101 can be pretty damn speedy if you want it to be and you have to make up time.

To me the 5 only makes sense if you are going to take it all the way up to Yreka. And you can't catch the 36 off of 5 can you? I mean the 3 comes off of 5 but not 36 (I am too lazy to look it up right now).

5 does connect to 36, but I am definitely leaning towards 101--especially as there will more likely be better camping options along the way. I'm sure I can get north of Cloverdale before dark tomorrow.

Good on ya! That is the better route. What time are you leaving? Pretty much north of Cloverdale puts you in Bragg area. Camping on the coast would be cool!
