Hi, this is Jim inviting STN members for a coffee on Sat. mornings around 8:30AM.  I'm part of a crew that tours throughout those canyons and others.  Look for a BMW K1200RS Taxicab, and I won't be far away.  CYA!

Not a bad first post there, Jim!

How is the LEO presence out there?  From the reports it pretty tough.

I won't be able to join ya, but I hope to see you on some other STN rides.

Peace!

LEO presence on Mulholland Hwy between Rock Store and Kanan is mythical!  They have a photographer working the twisties near the top, an operations motorhome (parked at the overlook), and lots of cruisers.  With all of the action along that strip, I guess they finally had to take it to this level.  Lots of expensive sheet metal rips up those twisties!  I got blown off by a Mazerati Quattro the other day, passing me at an insane clip.  The guy barely showed me a wheel, then used the whole road to pass me on a blind curve.  Worse yet, he was being drafted by a Viper.

Take 'er ez thru that area, and the rest if pretty wide open.

Ride Safe!  CYA.......

In my experience Sat mornings at the Rock Store is the best time, but you gotta get there early. Sunday is too many poseurs, and squids.

I went there a while back for the first time in a long time, and it was pretty mellow. I try to stay off the usual suspects though, and do my "riding" on some of the lesser known roads in the area. Decker was recently repaved, and they did a nice job. Once the grease wears off it should be plenty of fun for us small-bike riders. The additional guardrail provides a nice incentive to keep speeds sane though.

I noticed the absence of Ed & Vern. Do they still own the place or did they sell it?

Ed & Vern are still there.  No changes in ownership that I've heard of.  The LEO presence yesterday (8/18/07) was much less than the previous weekend.  Guess they wanted a show of force, then get back to chasing criminals somewhere else!

I agree on the timing (Sat morning good, Sun afternoons bad).

Ride safe!
