As a general note -- I order stuff from Chapperal for 5 or 6 years -- we then moved, and I placed a new order, along with giving them my new address -- most of the split shipment went to the old address, and the new resident was kind enough to let me know it had arrived (all of a five mile move) --
I contact customer service, who told me that they had the new address (while reading me the old one), and that the second portion of the shipment had just gone out -- I asked them to recall it, and resend it, not wishing to further impose on the poor folks that bought my old house -- I was told that was impossible, and that it was clear I hadn't moved at all (if you are slightly confused at this point, imgaine my state ;-} )
I told the rep I would have the new owner of my old house refuse the shipment, return it to them, and then they could resend it to the proper address, which I would be happy to give them, again.
The nice lady proceeded to tell me why I couldn't have that done, that it was their policy to stop doing business with customers who refused shipments for no reaons, and that I clearly had an attitude problem.
I told her she was right.
shipment was returned, to my knowledge Chapparal has blackballed me (never ordered from them again), and I hear, from time to time, war stories of folks trying to do business with em . . . .
the were a pretty good source, with decent prices, and OK service -- seems their explaosive growth in the early 90s changed all that . . .
YMMV, of course

Yeah, Chaparral's web site sucks. It's as though they want to chase potential customers away.

Have never ordered from them, never even been to their site.
I order most of my gear through newenough.com
All my tires from swmototires.com
Some OEM parts from bikebandit.com
Any site (not just bike sites) that list "contact us" (or something similar) where the price is listed will cause me to immediately bail on the site. If I wanted to contact you I would have called you in the first place instead of using this new fangled intarwebs thing.

I ordered from them once back in ~1994. A handlebar arrived with scratches all the way through the paint to the bare metal, which had
rusted
. (I.e., didn't occur in transit, but well beforehand.) The
unwrapped
helmet had been put into the large box with the
unwrapped
handlebar; there were scuffs all over the portion of the helmet where the bar was anywhere near it in the box. The shirt was the wrong size (order form matched what I'd ordered, though.)
They refused to swallow shipping -- even just the return shipping -- and then said they'd charge me shipping on the replacement items.

Being semi-local, I have been there many times. Once I ordered online, and that didn't go 'sactly as planned.
Unless I happen to be in the area, I stayed away from them.
Huge facility though. Massive retail store, and a substantial wharehouse one block away. They must be selling lots of stuff.
Some years ago, I needed a new tire for my Busa, so I pulled the rear wheel, and headed out there (I had to go somewhere close to them for something else). No problem, they said come back in 30 minutes. I wandered the store, paid for the tire, and then came back.
Well, they pulled my wheel onto the counter, and I immediately realized that it wasn't mine
A bunch of them immediately went to the back (hmm, seems that they had been through this before). And after 15 minutes, they told me that they gave it to the wrong customer! But not to worry, as it won't fit his Honda! The other customer didn't leave a phone #, so they couldn't even call him.
This was a Saturday morning, I wanted to ride Sunday. Eventually I left, and they said that as soon as he brought the wheel back in, they would call me so that I could come and pick it up!
I told them that I really didn't want to drive 80 miles round trip to correct thier mistake. He told me that he understands, so they could ship it to me UPS, and that they wouldn't even charge me shipping!
I gave them my address, and walked out.
I recieved the wheel (well packaged) on Wednesday.
No note, no discount, nothing.
But they were kind enough to not charge me shipping
I have not bought anything from them since.

Here's yet another way that Chaparral sucks...
A year ago, I found some boots there, size 41 on sale for $250...
the size 40, same boot, same color, were on sale for $150...
I asked for the lower price, after all, this was a 2004 boot...
and the manager I spoke with told me the biggest bullshit lie I have ever heard in retail -
he said he couldn't give me the lower price because the size 41 cost the store $100 more than the size 40.
Yeah right.
This was the store in San Bernardino, btw.

)
Edit: I guess I can.

I just got my KLR tires today. They were cheap, shipping was cheap, can't really mess up a tire shipment, I'm happy I guess.

I know this is a Chaparral bashing thread but if you want to talk lame gear websites are there any worse than
http://www.motoport.com
But I bought some mesh kevlar pants from them that kick ass. One company you need to call to deal with as online interaction is negligible.
