Took my baby out for a ride the other very cold winter day and noticed that the speedometer wasn't working anymore. Nothing appears to be broken or unhooked anywhere. Tachometer and lights on the console all still work fine. Any ideas of what to do before taking it to the dealer?   Headscratch
Thanks!

Check the cable going to down to the pickup on the throttle side of the front wheel hub.

May be a bad cable or worse yet, a bad speedo pick up.

Later.

Take off the front wheel and look at the speedo sender on the right side of the wheel.  The pickup has 2 metal prong thingies that match 2 grooves in the hub.  They made the sender ( the bit inside the hub of the wheel ) out of plastic for some reason.  If the pickup prongs are not precisely aligned with the grooves the speedo will work for a short while until the pickup is done chewing up the sender ( do not ask me how I know  Rolleyes )  If water got into the pickup and froze it could have chewed up your sender as well.

It will work and not work off and on.  The sender unit only lasts so long.  It is the same one that Triumph used on every Sagem injected bike, as far as I know, and I went through several of them on TT600s.  They seem to have about a five year life expectancy.  Less if you are not careful when you remove and replace the front wheel.
