ATGATT Hells Angel?!
«
on:
August 20, 2007, 05:06:22 AM »
So yesterday I saw one of the most puzzling sights ever. Dude on an HD, displaying a Massachusetts Hell's Angels patch. On the back of his
full-sleeve, armored leather jacket
. Which was worn in conjunction with
real leather riding pants
, not chaps. And,
a solid white, full-face helmet
.
Come to think of it, lately I've been noticing an increasing number of cruiser riders donning full-face helmets and varying degrees of riding gear.

The helmet was so that it would make him harder to identify on the security cameras
And any padding you see under the leather and logos is probably a kevlar vest, not crash armor...

Think what you want about Angels and other clubs, that a whole other topic. But those guys are serious riders. They ride fast, hard and long distance. Try riding 80 mph all day without a helmet. I've done it and it wears you out. Of course there are the older hold outs, but the younger club guys gear up when they hit the highway. Around town is a different story.

Indeed. I frequently see HD patches on the the Mass Pike and other interstates, obviously putting some miles down. This was the first time I've seen one so heavily geared though. Good on him!

Funny this got brought up, I rode back from Phoenix yesterday and whilst motoring along at 80mph, I caught and passed a group of cruisers, everyone one of 'em was wearing a leather jacket and a full face helmet. The crazy part was, everyone of 'em was also wearing "Bandidos" colors from the Texas chapter. I gave the lead rider a big thumbs up after pointing to my helmet.
I immediately realized this may have come off flippant and condescending, so I nailed the throttle and rode like hell for 100 miles.

More and more I see cruisers with full face helmets on. Good for them!
A friend would wear a full face with just a t-shirt, shorts and sandals. He said that he hates riding any other way. I told him that he shouldn't wear a helmet and wish for a coma so he would be knocked out during the skin graphs! He didn't like my humor.

A woman I work with is married to an HA and both she and her husband wear full-face helmets.....and this is in South Carolina which doesn't have a helmet law.

Had a group of Hells angels blast by when I was stopped outside Sturgis taking pictures, and one of them was on a Ullysses.
Just thought it looked kinda unusual.

I worked briefly with a patch wearing Bandito. He was a really good guy once you got past the scary looks, and I got talking to him about bikes many times. He was thinking hard about a Buell, since a Buell is OK as far as the club was concerned. Nothing else was. He had the obligatory Harley, with about 150K miles on it. It wasn't even all that old. He just rode it a whole lot. He had all the usual complaints about Harleys that you hear here, so he thought a Buell would be a good change for him. Once you got past the surface, he was amazingly candid about bikes, what he liked and didn't like about specific bikes, and all kinds of other things. He wouldn't say much about the club, but I didn't expect him to.
Oh, and he had a little plastic brain bucket. Can't have everything, I guess.

Probably because they know someone who got messed up because he wasn't wearing one.

A friend of mine and I were heading down to deals gap for a vacation when he shows up to my house with his bike packed, and a beene helmet strapped to the top of his pack oh and he did not put the windshield on his Harley. I told him he would not last the day before he was wishing for the windshield or the full faced helmet I gave him. Well he made it to Harrisburg Pa, about 200 miles from where we live before he tells me "we need to find a HD dealer so I can get a helmet or a windshield". We find Battlefield HD and he gets his helmet, after another 100 miles or so I as him how does he like the helmet? He tells me the helmet is great and "it's so much more comfortable you that I have no idea" So I raise an eyebrow and say " oh but I do have and idea, I've been wearing one all along"
