He wasn't stil on his cell phone.  He went out to see what's up and then went back into the car for the phone presumably to call for help.

That's how it appears to me. The driver actually seems distressed and in a "I don't know what to do" type of panic.

Thanks for posting.  It's a good reminder that we always need to look both way before crossing an intersection, even if we have the right of way.

I came very close to getting pegged in a similar way not too long ago.  I pulled into an intersection when the light turned green and a cage nearly hit me as she blew the light while changing lanes.  She was far enough away that I didn't percieve a threat from her until late, and dropped anchors halfway through the intersection.  She didn't even swerve, slow down or anything.  Fortunately, she got stopped at the next light so I got off the bike right next to her, tapped on the window, and gave her a pretty good spooking.  I wasn't going to do anything besides tell her to get off the phone and pay attention, but she thought I was some kind of homocidal maniac.  I hope she was bright enough to put two and two together and get four, but who knows.

Gee, I've always feared that in a case like that, in a fit of adrenaline, I'd bust the side window and pull the driver from the car and beat them senseless right there on the street. Unfortunately, I'd recall nothing of it later.   Rolleyes

Yeah, but how the HELL did that biker not see that coming a mile away. His front end didn't dive; he didn't hit the brakes. WTF???

Scooters don't dive when the brakes are applied like motorcycles do.

You know, one of the things we teach in M/C safety class is that among the reasons for multi-vehicle collisions at intersections, in addition to the cage drivers being clueless (no, that's not how we present it in class - though I'd like to some days...) is that riders sometimes "... fail to anticipate that a motorist will violate their right of way ..." - in other words, failure to predict the worst case scenario.  It's amazing how many accident reports you read that contain some version of "... well, I saw the car stopped at the stop sign, but he shouldn't have come out in to the road and hit me ..."

Yup, this is a great reminder to double and triple check before entering an intersection.
