I did my first TBS at about 1K when I figured out that my dealer had not done everything listed on my initial service. Immediately saw better throttle response and gas mileage. Since it was my first time I went through initial teething problems learning how to accomplish the task. Since then I decided to figure out ways to make the job easier. Lots of tips abound on various FJR sites. I copied the hold the tank up with a strap to the back of the bike and I removed the PAIR stuff (man does that make things easier for a guy who wears xxxl gloves). I started using a Twin Max about three bikes ago, but it was a pain switching between cylinders. Well here is my contribution to new tips. I got a three ganged aquarium air valve and plugged #1, #2, #4 into it and #3 directly into the Twin Max. I plugged the common line from the valve into the Twin Max. I was able to check and adjust to equal readings at max sensitivity (something I had only been able to approximate on all my other bikes) then go right back to recheck. One touch up and they were spot on. Another stolen item from the guy who documented the PAIR removal, is I replaced those gummy Yamaha vacuum caps with ones from a BMW. Stiffer rubber and a tapered shape make removal/replacement a snap.
I really like a the Twin Max. Takes some getting used to, but I don't have to worry about Hg spills or replacement.
