Hey guys! JUst a heads up that the OPP are under a " No Mercy" mandate.  I was told yesterday that they WILL NOT be dropping your speed on the ticket.
In fact I was told this as the ...uhmmn, gentleman(?), handed me my ticket!
I guess nailing somone to the wall for 15 over is WAY more important than say... getting drugs off the street!
anyway, just a heads up...

The last ticket I got was not lowered either and that was almost three years ago.  The officer said they were not allowed to lower the speed, this was something only a JP could do.

Also, watch out in Toronto, they are really tight for money and a friend of mine got a ticket for doing 40kph in a 30kph zone.  I did not know you could get a speeding ticket while going that slow.  These 30kph zones are new and are only located in Toronto because City Council actually petitioned the Province for special permission to mark a speed limit on a public road, which is slower than a school zone.  These areas are where the locals would really like through traffic to just go away.

Although I wouldn't complain if I was the one receiving one, I often wondered about lowering of a ticket. That makes them a judge.

The last time I went for a ride was August 4th. Considering the lackluster roads and now this silliness, it doesn't look like I am missing out on much.

I'll say the speed limits in this province are rediculous. 100km/hr on a 400 series highway!  Lol 80 km/hr on hwy 7!  Lol

I just returned from ON. I was riding 20 over... then I realized the "60" meant km/hr. Oops. After a while, some yo yo in a Toyota Corolla passed me.

An OPP response to me awhile back was... " Why should I lower your ticket when your going to fight it anyway.  Today I feel that they do not drop tickets because
1} just pay it and carry on

2} You need to drive to the District court house which may not be close to where you live. You will then see the prosecutor and ( presumably) plead guilty with explanation - at that time depending on the severity of the fine  the ticket will be cut back.

Just driving far and having to deal with a nuisance ticket is another penalty in it's self

I'm really starting to get sick of Toronto and Ontario to be honest... maybe it's the same in other places, or maybe there are other issues... but man, I really can't see myself buying a house in this city in the next year or two and have to deal with all this BS...

BC is looking real nice right now...  Headscratch

What some of you may have missed or forgot is that the supreme a@#hole that ruined the Toronto Police dept's reputation is NOW running the OPP....so you shouldn't be surprised....1st thing he did was stop the highway safety blitzes  that they'd warn people about days in advance  Headscratch(using Sgt. Cam Wooley....who the new boss hates)..... & they'd still catch huge amounts of incredibly stupid people & pull them & their junk off the road (which was a good thing)....so you know it's only going to get worse EEK!.....

Not lost on me, but thanks for the reminder of those particulars. I have lived under his shadow since the days he was in uniform at 31 Division at Jane and Finch, pissing off the locals.

that's not nearly as bad as the legislation they are trying to pass, if you speed by 50km? over it will be considered racing, even if you are by yourself
I think that makes it Criminal offence, automatic loss of licence, etc

According to the CBC the first day's tally for the new 50km over law in Ontario is 28.
7-day vehicle impound and license suspension
$2000 impound bill plus up to $5000 fine plus possible 2 year jail.

As far as I can tell only 1 bike held but he was north of 200 km/h  Crazy(max speed limit on any road in Ontario is 100 km/h), I guess he hadn't heard that the new law was coming into effect.

Apparently three rental cars were impounded as well, (I wonder how they are going to explain the  extra weeks rental on the expense report).

My short term prediction, well my tire life and gas gas consumption is expected to improve.
Just hoping this goes the way of photo radar.

Asshats that are in possion of an illegal hand gun don't receive penalties that severe -- fuckin gov!!!  Speeding has just got  much more interesting - so the question begs - if you are  flagged doing 50 plus will you have second thoughts on wicking it up and hauling ass?  Or be a good little man and walk home

I think it would depend where you are.....backwater highway & it's getting dark, or anywhere outside of the GTA with very little traffic (preferably not by an OPP station) & it would be "Can you say....Bye - Bye?"..... Thumbsup....

This "No Mercy" mandate must be a switch they flip on and off on a whim. Three speeding tickets in the last year. One last May, the officer told me he couldn't drop it any (83 in a 50). Two last July, (140 in 100, and 110 in a 70), and both were dropped to 15 over (no points). And now, "No Mercy" again?

Fight it, if you have the time and resources. Even if it's no points, you don't want something like that on your abstract for when the big ones come your way.
