Hey Everyone:

I am currently dealing on a 2006 FJR 1300A (Still in the box model). Here is where things stand. The dealer has quoted me 16,000 CAN. (The new 2007 model has a MSLP of 19,000 CAN) The salesman tells me the dealer will not drop from the MSLP, but did state he may be able to forward me additional discount in the form of Yama Bucks, at the time of the local bike show.

I have until early January to give them a deposit (my name is on the crate in pencil until then).

It appears that the only negotiating these people will do is on the trade in price of my Bandit. I got the same response from the other dealer across town, who does not have any 2006 models left.

Is this normal procedure on the FJR? I have heard you must special order one in the US which I would imagine would amount to the same no bargaining situation.

Anyway, I will probably plop down some money right after the bike show on this shiny new blue baby. My 9 year old son has decided he will be joining me on bike trips this year so I thought the FJR would be a good step up from the Bandit. Safety was the deciding factor, as with the addition of a top box, I should not loose the little guy. As most of my rides are highway blasts, and the fact I am getting bloody old, the B-12 is kind of killing me on long rides now.

No more special order deal in the states.  Some dealers don't budge on price, but a few will.  I would imagine that things will get shaken up in the ST market when the new concours hits the market.  It may be a hit and you'll see a lot of fjrs sitting at the dealers.  No one really knows.

What is the used price of a low mile 2006?  I would think you would use this a comparo instead of the next years model price.

If that is a dealer you use now, remind them how much business you give them in service and parts, show a competing price and ask them to match it.  If it's the last bike in the world this probably won't work though. Burnout

It may be hard to compare US vs Canada when it comes to prices and deals on a new 2006.  I bought my 2006 FJR in July and managed just a few hundred under the MSRP. In looking at posts on the FJR forum it seems that close to msrp is about it. BTW I really am very happy with my purchase even though I am paying for it every month for the next few years.

Another thing I should add is that we are also in the middle of a huge Oil boom here, so lots of money is being spent on big ticket toy's such as FJR's. A sellers market for sure.

Only two Yama dealerships in the immediate area, they both KNOW they'll sell the few fjr's that they get, usually within a few days of hitting the sales floor (if they aren't already spoken for by then).

The best way I've found to get them to deal, is to buy a bike there, and trade it on a newer bike. Got a very good deal from one of them that way.

Caveat:  at one dealership, there is one of the "clutchless" bikes still for sale, has been for months.

(At the local Kaw/Suz dealer, there is an '05 for 10k......  Get thee behind me, Satanic Blue Bike!)

check to see if the bike was bought via the Priority Delivery Program (PdP). In the US and, I think Canada, this program was in place through 2006. If a dealer has a bike that was bought by "playing the system" then the oem warranty has been ticking since the bike arrived at the dealership. You might be buying a used bike without much of a Yamaha warranty left on it. Ask specifically if you're OEM warranty is through Yamaha or only that dealership. Check with Yamaha national for the VIN and see if it's been registered in someone else's name already.

1. You're in Canada, so there never was a PDP program.

2. $16,000 is an excellent price (up here) for an FJR.  Dealer is actually contributing most of his holdback to you at this price.  I got mine last spring at $16,650 and the other dealers in town couldn't/wouldn't even come close.  The '07s are marginally more expensive.

3. I considered importing one from South of the Border - but the local stealers in PLattsburgh, NY wouldn't discount from list and I didnt have the time for a ride up from D&H, so it just wasn't worth the effort.  It seems, however, that like Kawasaki, Yamaha will deny warranty service (even in the US) for a machine plated outside of the country of sale - consider that, and maybe buy a slightly used '06 from the States and a 3rd party warranty?

3. Yamabuck promotions work - the usually offer incentives in the slower winter months.  I had a $300 Yamabucks offer in force when I bought my '06 (supposedly, since I never actually SAW the certificate) and I 'used' it to order an oversize windshield for my '06.  However since I've been waiting since June and there's been no sign of it . . . . maybe I'll phone my dealer switch the order to a set of overpriced footguards instead.

The $300 promotion is back - until end of March, $300 in Yamabucks on the FJR (and other models too).

Hey Bounce:

The dealer is supplying me with a full I year warranty with option of up to 5 years. The bike is actually still in the crate.

As I mentioned somewhere else, the dealers here in Alberta are laughing due to the oil boom. Money laden rig workers are blowing their kids inheritance with all kinds of toy purchases here, so no one is desperate to give away things. In fact my dealer had 4, 2006 FJR A models in their hands just after Christmas, and within a week they had sold 3 of them. This is in the slowest time of the year for bike sales here, as there is 3.5 feet of snow on the ground.

To give you an idea, the dealer has a $39,000.00 supercharged Rino on their sales floor right now. (They sold an even more expensive one last fall) Imagine, $39,000.00 for a quad!

OTD pricing means absolutely nothing.  It's like blind people trying to compare fruit based on color.  That's because taxes, tags and sundry expenses differ from one jurisdiction to the next - so just why is it that people like to post and compare invoice totals?

MSRP is $13,799 south of the 49th parallel.

If you have taxes and such to pay then OTD'll be higher.  Since we all should know by now that you can walk up and buy the '07 'A' model for $11,779.00 and a 4 year YES extension for $389 from D&H (located in AL), the key is to compare those with your before tax price for your bike.

Delivery in May, maybe April.  Pushed it as far back as possible...weather and hopefully the southern house will be sold.  There appear to be only 2 colors...black cherry, for the "A" model, and silver, for the "AE" or electric shift.  I am getting the "A".  Black CHerry is purrrrdy, but wouldnt have been my first, second, nor third choice.  But, hopefully my new love affair will turn out like the flat charcoal gray on the Max, I hated it at first, and now wouldnt have it any other way.

Pics in April or May.

Much better than my "deal", but much farther than I would have been willing to drive!!  I hear-tell they are actually making more FJR's this year?  Truth or not, seeming to be opening the "deal" door a bit wider.  COngrats daddysbike

Last weekend.. At a Southern CA dealer that carries both Yamaha and Kawaski... 07 FJR AE...$16,999+(tags,tax etc) EEK!. 07 FJR... $14,999+ EEK!.... And he had 1 AE and 2 clutch on the floor unsold. No word yet on price for the 07 Conti. I am thinking they know but are not telling....
I am also thinking the BMW RT is looking way better...
