Woo-hoo!  OK, I don't have it yet so technically I have not violated the no pics rule.

In true STN fashion we're leaving Fri to go to Ventura to snag an '05 KLR with 15K on the clock and more farkles than you can shake a knobbie at:  dohickey, larger windshield, gel grips, heated grips, centerstand, side racks, rear rack, Happy Trails engine guard.

I will be riding it home and as it has the stock seat I may be standing on the pegs before we reach Santa Barbara.   Lol

Oh man, are you in for a new world of motorcycling.  Just don't forget what that bike is designed for: stopping and smelling the roses (wherever they may be on the planet).  It is a bike that you ride at a leisurely pace.

For the ride home:  Remove the windscreen entirely.  The big-ol-barn door screens cause a lot of buffetting at highway speeds; things get much more comfortable if you pull it off and stow it somewhere else.

I have visions of Ural Ballast Babe in the Xterra pulling over every 20 miles as she drives sag wagon.

"I'd like to change gloves now."

"Oh, need to add a jacket liner."

"Do you have any extra cold water?"

"Maybe I'll change to mesh gear."

"Just need to use the Plexus for a minute."

Damn - you'll do anything to get out of having house guests!  Embarassment

Too bad you didn't have it already - we could go play on Saturday. Can't wait to see the pictures and hear your thoughts once you've put some miles on it. As for the stock seat, I have over 30K on mine and I do just fine with it  Thumbsup

YMMV  Lol

Ditto.  In fact, I found the stocker to be very comfortable.  It's usually guys over 180lb that have issues with it (and every other stocker ever made).

Ahem, 215 pounds here.   Embarassment

Dante, you and and the rest of the gang are still welcome to stay as my Dad will be here.

Dropped the price on the GS and also it should appear in an upcoming Cycle Trader.  I hate to sell the GS, but even I blush at four bikes in the garage.   EEK!

OK, btw there's a great Chinese restaurant at the N end of La Pine on the E side of the hwy.  It's in a small strip mall.  Huge portions, so order accordingly.

Thanks all for the kind PM's and other offers for places to flop on way down/back or call in case Kawi thumper goes thffppt.  That's what makes STN so great.   Thumbsup

I leave tomorrow so today's errand is buying a couple of spare tubes.  Oh and after three years of riding nothing but shaftdrive bikes I have to go get some chain lube.   Bigsmile

Then your first mod after you get it home is to order and install a ScottOiler for it.
On the KLR it's a pretty easy and straight forward job.
Have an enjoyable trip. Thumbsup

Congratulations on the KLR.

If you hate yourself enough to ride I-5, Hwy 50 or I-80, you will be passing right by my house and you're welcome to stop by or stay the night if that fits your plans. PM for contact info.

Very cool.  Thumbsup

The only thing is that you probably won't ride your street bike much for a while.  Rolleyes

I got my DS in February and I rode the FJR 3 times all summer and the 4th time will be to Chester, CA. I kind of forgot how to ride it.  Smile

Ack!

Too late to the party...again.   Sad

The Semi-official, ST.N, Mid-West Coast B&B&B musta been on yer way and we would be proud to have hosted ya, but alas I tumbled to the thread too late.

Next time give us more lead time during "logging season" would ya?   Wink

Congrats on the new bike even though its "off-roadness" bans you from "Sport-Touring" forever.

It's been good to know ya, good bye.   Razz

Not to worry, good Doctor, we took one look at the soaring SoCal temps and said "Eastern Sierra, that's for us!  Who needs some namby-pamby maritime cooling; let's embrace the furnace."  So CA 178 from Bakersfield over the Sierras to US 395 all the way to Orygun, then OR 31 to 97 and 97 back to Bend.

With apologies to Colin Fletcher, my own 1,000-mile summer in 2.5 days.  Thank gawd my butt and the stock seat got along.   Bigsmile
