OK maybe I should pick up the shop manual for this thing! But where the hell is the battery! I can't find it! Took off all her skin and don't see it! Is it in the tail section? Next to the air box? And what battery would you guys recommend? Thanks!

Less NSFW threads and more Kawasaki manuals for you. Geez, not even a manual. Go out and look.

Get a manual. In the meantime the battery is behind the right side tailsection/fairing. You need to unscrew a retaining thing and then it will slide out to the right.

Yup, It's right under your nads. Take off the seat, there's a 2.5x1.5in rubber plug for access to the positive terminal. Take off the right side tailsection and retaining cover as per 1K. Slide out.
OMFG... I gave technical advice. The heavens will fall.

I took the skin off the bike late last night when the sun was down, i didn't see it....I'll take it appart again tomarrow when I get home. Maybe I'll have a better view when the sun is up. I know where it should be but....ah it's cool. I just missed it I guess. Also for this bike I noticed the manual calls out for the regular jell cell. What do you guy recommend? Is there any brand that sticks out better than the rest? Thanks!

Dunno... I'm still running the same battery it came with 4 years ago. I like the no-maintenance gel batteries.

On the old VFR when you changed out the battery you checked out the RR for any damage and usually eneded up ordering a new one. Do these bikes have the same issues? Thanks!

GPZ-1100 electrical systems are as good as they get. Actually the whole bike is amazingly reliable once you change out the first set of steering head bearings.

James, what's a good source for replacements? Do you use OEM? I understand the stock bearings are tapered roller bearings already.

The stock bearing weren't bad, they just didn't grease them adequately from the factory for some reason. I hear the same is true with the swing arm bushing but can't confirm/deny. The one thing I had a shop do was the steering head bearings and I couldn't tell you where they sourced the bearings. I have ordered other bearings, front wheel bearings, and got them from my company's bearing supplier (very convenient). There is a web site that has a nice bearing cross reference with all the standard numbers so you can order from anywhere. http://www.bikebearingshop.co.uk/C1.htmJames

Well I was going to change out the battery this week end. But it looked ok and checked out ok. Even though 10 days ago it gave me a little hick up. Just wouldn't turn over, but after a quick 5 min check of things she suddenly turned on? I don't know what caused it but......it was a very hot day and I had just gotten gass. Maybe she was just pissed?

Well i did do a hillbilly dance around the bike trying to figure out what was wrong! But no just didn't want to turn over, almost as if the engine was flooded but....well it wasn't. It was a nice hot sunny day and she just wasn't too interested in starting. Did a quick look around and the second time i hit the starter it turned over. Just scared me a little but it hasn't done it since. So I have no idea what it was?
