Olympic hockey, 1980 style:

Dot was at the 1980 Winter Olympics and she dug out some pictures she has from the event. Dot was working as a translator for a few of the Soviet teams.  She would attend the nightly coaches conferences and translate, as well as the inter-team meetings.   That also meant she was a hostess:

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n302/peter_anon/Image3-32.jpg

The building behind her is the olympic housing.  It was built in time for this use, but it was also built as a prison and became that after the games ended.  Here is the US team arriving at the opening ceremony.  Dot is the second in on the left of the line of hostesses:

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n302/peter_anon/Image2-41.jpg

Now, the big moment (drumroll) :  She was at THE game.  She says she understood the importance of the game, but she didn't understand hockey.  The only picture from the game she has is:

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n302/peter_anon/LakePlacid1980WinterOlympics-15.jpg

The sign in Russian appears to have made by some US fans since it is incorrectly written and it is taunting the Soviets.  Roughly, it says 'Keep the Russians on their own side.'

Good game!  Could have had a better finish, however, it sure wasn't 4-1!

I was at a birthday party with many 3 and 4 year olds at the "Jumping place" Crazy

Overall, I thought it was a great Olympics for North America.

Damn! Betrayed by a Pittsburgh Penguin!

Hey, at least the Russians didn't win, right Twist? I heard the Russian location selected for 2012 has even warmer winter weather than Vancouver.

I rode the new steed into work today.

It was awesome - good to be back on a bike.

Ahhhh, life is good again.

Most excellent!!   Bigok

We sold Sadie last night.  Dot shed a few tears as the new owner rode off (actually, she shed a few even before he rode off).  Nice young man bought the now ex-Sadie.  I pointed out st.n to him so maybe we will see that SV650 again.

Cool glimpse re: Dot.  Bet that there are some stories to tell there....  Perhaps over gf pie.  GF Pie.   Drool

Saw a beemer yesterday on the beltway -- for a second, thought it was you.  A sticker on the mudguard read:  "One Less Prius"

I nearly died laughing.   Lol

I was told I'm grumpy and the sun will be out this weekend.

She commanded me to go for a ride.  Inlove

Anyone in for the first Gili of the year on nice sandy roads?

Sister is in town this weekend, so not sure if I'll be able to ride. I charged the batteries last weekend and warmed everything up, so the bikes are ready to go!
