DNA, was that road in Utah you were crowing about on par with 550 or better?

Utah 12 from Tropic to Torry was very good - but I ran it in the rain east of Escalante in a big lighting storm over the ridge on the Grand staircase so I cannot compare it to 550.  Sort of like your Dragon run.

http://scenicbyway12.com/

I thought Bear tooth was as good as 550, and 12 was about like Gunn's Black Canyon north rim.  All 4 great roads - 2 over high mountains 2 in canyons.

I would absolutely recommend it as a top 5 roads I have ever run.  If in Utah - do it.

I did managed to spank a VFR in Red white and blue color scheme in the rain.  Once by, I lost him in about 1 or 2 corners.

90 east through Chicago at 5:00 AM and ~18 hours into an all nighter was the worst road in America and WTF is with all the cops on the Ohio turn pike?

so it goes garbage can -> Vstrom 650 -> 1200GS. i'd say that's about right.

you've had bad luck riding with Vstrom 650'ers in the past anyway, you got lucky this time!

So, is anyone planning to go to ESTN this year? I just may have a hallpass for that weekend....

Perhaps a NoVa reunion of sorts?

I hope your Beartooth experience was better than ours.  There was a pirate gathering just at the bottom when we went through...a big one.  Like a rally.  We were constantly being passed in blind turns by the most unskilled of riders.  A few times we thought we were going to be first responders.  "Nice job getting around w/ your giant S&S and fat tire kit.  So, whatcha gonna do about that turn coming up?"  Idiots.  Same thing happened on 20 going through the North Cascades passes.  I actually had to move my truck and trailer over to let the bikes in (BESIDE ME) as trucks were coming by the other direction or they would have been killed.  They just followed the leader with zero regard for oncoming traffic and zero realization that they weren't much faster than me with my camper going up the hills.  Ugh.

Did you play in the snow on top of Beartooth?

I had the opposite experience.
I ran north at 7:00 AMa nd had the whole road to my self.  Seriously I only saw a few vehicles, which were quickly dispached and faded inthe mirrir right quick.

I had breakfast in RedLodge, adn started back over around 9:30 ish?  There was a BMW rally so I saw a bunch of other BMW's and a few PU trucks, etc, but the road was really really nice and I could pretty much go as fast as I was willing.  I never stopped, but adn took only a few pick, but I could not have possibly have had a better time.

Sorry yours was not great - but you were pulling a camper over a (the?) best moto road in the US- so I guess there is justice.  Wink

Nearly better than GF pie:  Dot's daughter in Portland, OR, reports there is a GF fish&chips place there that bills itself as the best fish&chips house in the country.  We ride (far) for GF fish&chips?   Bigok

I went over to Summit Point Raceway both days this weekend.  Dot rode over on Saturday to watch.  I worked on my technique.  Good time.  Almost faster than a grandma on Sunday going to church.   Sad

Hi Guys, not much happening right now on the thread. Hope all is well. Peter and I are in NJ this weekend; he is doing the track Smile, I'm holding his umbrella Wink, and working three proposals as well Headscratch. We are moved into the new place, and lots of thanks to Joey and Twist for their help. We were planning on having an open house in Sept, but the month is fast getting away from us. And we are quickly sliding down the last few weeks before our Spain/Portugal tour on BMW F800-somethings (same as what we did in Italy two years ago).  I miss you guys, and jeez I'd love to come up for air to plan a get together. What is new with y'all?

Thanks for the post Dot - hope you all are well and getting some miles.

We are just waiting around - baby #3 is due Monday.  EEK!

I though tomorrow would be an interesting b-day, but RNA disagrees quite strongly.

Oh - work is longer than ever - out at 6:45 most AM's - back at 7:45 most PM's.  Thankfully I should pay lots in taxes this year.

After the long long ride - it might be a while before I need to sit on the beautiful GS again, but I am glad some 0f you people are getting some miles.
