Who uses one with their RD? How loud does it get? Is volume adjustable and can it be temporarily muted if needed? I have an Escort X50 I'd like to use on the bike.

It's not the destination, but the journey, that counts. A sport-tourer's ride between two points is seldom a straight line. He will often seek the most convoluted route possible.

It's pretty fookin' loud.  It has three settings, off, low, and high.  Off is the "mute", low is for cities, parking lots, and such, and high is for highway speeds.  Different windscreen/helmet combos will give different results as to whether you'll hear it at highway speeds.  I can hear mine up to about 80 or so if I don't have earplugs or the iPod in.  I eventually just went with a hardwired system to Etymotics plugs.

I recently rode with a buddy who has one. It chirped whenever he started his bike. It took me a while to figure out what it was. He really likes it. I was considering one until another buddy offered to sell me his h.a.r.d. unit for $80. That was a no-brainer and I really do like it.

Most of the guys that I know down here use either the h.a.r.d. unit or wired into their chatterboxes (or ear plugs).

I looked into the Screamer.

It needs to be hard wired to a 12V power supply.  Plus, I didn't have any room in my Buell to mount it.

In the end I went with my Etymotics ER-6i plugged into my Escort X50.
