This is a little OT, but the camera has been used to take pictures of bikes so maybe this is on topic.

Dot has a Sony DSC-P200 camera.  A couple of months back spots appeared on images taken with it.  Like this [Tree branches at the bottom are supposed to be there; the things at the top are not]:

I thought it was just gunk on the lens.  So yesterday I finally stopped by a photography place and got the cleaning fluid and cloths.  No change.

Any of you have an idea of what that might be?

is there a clear sheet of something between the actual lens and the exterior? I had an old Canon point and shoot that had a clear cover that (after time) ended up with gunk inside that cover whidh I could never remove. The camera ended up property of my daughter and we replaced. Not sure if there was a way to disassemble and clean, but might be something to look into.

With 'soft edges' I don't think it would be a sensor blemish / defect.

It could be dirt that has worked its way into the imaging assembly. Mine has several like you display - working to get the camera serviced via the extended warranty people (a fight).

Looks like speck of dirt. Can you get the lens off? If you can just try to blow it out

Yeah, looks like something on the sensor or back of the lens (if the front is clean).  If true you'll have to send to a Sony service center for a cleaning.  Digicams are less likely to get gunk behind the non-removable lens but more of a pain once it happens.  Did you get it really wet one day?

Well, not really wet, but the first time I noticed it was after was after we had used it to take some pics during a ride and it was misting out.  The front of the lens is clean.  I can't see how to get the lens out; to the service center it goes.

Thanks for the inputs.
