Well I purchased a Quest 2, love it. I upgraded to V8 of the maps. Does anyone else find the redraw is working alot slower now? I have all the latest updates for the unit.

Mine was never fast to begin with...and I have no idea how old my maps are. I'll get back to you on it.

Had a Quest2 with V7.1 maps that had a display go bad.

I also have the original Quest with V6 maps that still works.

Lots more stuff with the V7 maps so maybe it's just a larger file that it has to search and work with.

Q2 was definitely slower that my Q.

well I found it was fast enough for me in V7, but I needed to update to V8 for some additions that I wanted. Anyways, I have just noticed a real slow down on redraw. It seems to be worse when actually routing, not just showing current position

Check your detail level and POI inclusions.

How large a scale are you using?

I will check the detail level and poi inclusions today. I am usually viewing at 200 m or 300 m. Again, this worked fine in V7.

My Q2 stopped finding satelites yesterday.
45 days old and broked already.  Not a great sign.

well mine came with a free upgrade. gpscentral.ca sent me the disk. I then went online with my win xp computer, downloaded the automatic updater, updated the software first on the quest 2, registered it yadda yada. Then installed the disk, connected my gps, and it automatically updated the rest. Just wish I could do it on my mac. Luckily a co-worker gave me a free pc. I only use it for my gps unit, and hopely if Garmin lives up to their word, I will be able to do it all from my mac this year, or early next year.

Mine did the same thing while I was on a cross country trip. Luckily I was already within a days ride of home when it really started to cut out.
I sent it back to Garmin and got a replacement with no hassles and the new one has been working like a charm ever since.

Guys,
Does anyone use an antennae with their GPS? I have found some online and depending on price some are affordable.....I wonder if this would help with the response of the units?

Mine did the same, in about the same time frame, currently back at Garmin for repair.  There is a Yahoo site for Quest !! where this problem comes up.
I have an external antenna for it that works quite well even when the internal antenna quit.

Great info.
I am updating to City Select 8, and I upgraded the basic software - now the sat function is gone - I doubt it will come back.
I will call Garmin tomorrow and send it back for a fix.
How long should I expect  it to take?

They told me about 7-10 days.  You got to go to their site and get a repair order #.  They will email instructions.

Satellite links are not the issue with the slow redraw. I have a Quest 2 and it grabs the signal just fine. The issues are a slow processor and a huge amount of computation and graphics output.

Slowest. GPS. Ever. However, it's got a fantastic feature set for the $$$$, so I'm in no real rush to get anything different. I've had mine a little over a year and really don't have any complaint beyond the speed of recalcs and redraws.

I just got mine back from Garmin - they replaced the entire unit with a new one.
It took about 10 days and they even uploaded all my way points and settings.
I am very impressed.

Lucky - your seems to be broken also - the words are all scrambled up. EEK!
See if they will send you a new one as well.  Wink

I dont mind the recalculating part, its the redraw, especially when the turn is coming up very soon! Love the pics Lucky. I still have not descided where to mount mine yet. Do most of you put it in the centre?

I have my Quest slightly off-centre to the left so that it doesn't get in the way of any of the displays on the dashboard. Not that it does really obstruct the view or anything. I also find it easier to look at when its off to the side rather than right in my face! Think its just personal preference though, and especially where you have available to mount the thing!
