 easy to do-
You can get the ball bearings and adhesive backed velcro in a hardware store- already had the $40 dollar alarm.  The second set of wires is backup, in case I break a connection. The ball bearings roll to the wires and complete the circuit when the bike is taken off the kick stand. Velcro the marker tube to a vertical surface .Glue the cap on, I didn't have time- or to add a switch. Range is around 85 feet.  Use the chirp sound so you don't mistake the one from the motel, if they use one. Mine did. A dark cover to conceal the bike is recommended.

Mercy Lens... that's ingenious but I think you're daft to post your bike's security on the net...

The June 2004 issue of Motorcycle Consumer News has an article about a similar "Do It Yourself" motorcycle alarm, that uses using an inexpensive remote door chime available at most home improvement stores.

 Razz
I don't intend to take another overnight trip for at least 8 months. What are the odds that a thief, who trolls this particular site, is going to remember this, let alone what my particular SV looks like?.  I also keep a disc lock on it.   Rolleyes  MCN gave me the idea for this device. At home, it's in a garage, behind a locked gate.

You should wrap red paper around the highlighter tube and leave the whole thing on top of your handlebar clamps.  Nobody would touch it.

You could also just use a simple mercury switch.

The ampule can be incased in rtv silicone. Though I have the wires, highlighter, and the ballbearings at home. All I would need is the door chime. I'm thinking of a personal alarm (one that you pull the pin and is ungoddly loud) that my ex-girlfriend left in the truck. Thanks for getting the gears turning and generating ideas.

I kind of like the idea.  Never worried about bike security while touring on the KLR, but I actually think about it from time to time with the Ducati.  Usually my security method involves hiding it behind a very dirty but well farkled KLR.  (or between two if possible) Wink

I'm curious though, I wonder what would happen if someone who was "messing around" with the bike had the alarm go off.  I'm betting they would just "drop" the bike causing untold damage.  Any opinions?
