Get use to hearing the word "grunt" to describe a V4s broad power band...

Uh, move to Ducati Forum???
And Larry, any of the 990cc GP bikes would be described as having plenty of power, no matter what engine configuration.

James, do you know John (I forget his last name), one of the regulars at Palomar? He'd been running a ZX10, and I think he's got a 1098 now. He has a desmosedici on order.

I wonder what a salvage title Desmosedicci would go for?

You don't need to be a 'tard to bin a bike at a track day.
If you can afford one of these and you are taking it to the track then you probably have assumed that risk.
Wonder if it comes with traction control?

Why?
I would rather see one get binned on a track, than one that is a show piece, never ridden the way it was meant to be.

Right on James...
I'd love to see the Ducati's V4 entered in WSBK and then watch it hunt down and destroy their own
V2 motor of deaths... and chase down Honda's leading CBR "like come here I4, I won't hurt you, he he he."
Too bad Ducati doesn't see itself as a V4 company... I think that's a giant blunder on the part of the
CEO's lack of vision ... even Mr.RC45 bows to the king of V4s...

A local guy has two on order and is trying for a third as I understand it. I think he buys 3 of all the Ducati superbikes. He had a 1098 TriColore at the track last week. No doubt one of his D16RRs will show up at a track day.

I think he's one of the larger equity partners in Beaverun Motorsports Park. I've met him once, he seems like a nice guy. He's the guy who would pay to get Doug Polen at the track for the Euro Moto of Pgh days.

Just a small point my friend but the 990 Desmosedici V4 roadbike that you..... OK we all, are drooling over is neither of the 180 or 360deg V4 formats favoured by Honda, but a slightly off set twin-pulse crank design. More like an extended-duration-bang V-twin in fact....
Casey Stoners 800 is a true 360 deg screamer like the RC45. One of the clever things Ducati did was realise that the funny cranks needed to find traction with the 990's was not necessary with the 800 lower torque levels. So Ducati added together desmo valve actuation (not for its rev ceiling, but for its lower power losses vs valve springs) and the inherent balance of a 360deg crank 90deg V4 and minimised power losses at high revs.
So in fact Ducati use the V4 not for its alleged "grunt", but for its high rev characteristics......

Same thing, different tag. Over here the even firing interval 500cc 2 stroke V4 donks were known as screamers ( higher pitch sound at high revs), as were the NC30, RC30, NC45 & RC45. The VFR750/800' with their lower pitched sounds at the same revs are droners... if more musical IMHO.
Still its real clever of Ducati to understand that in the 800 MotoGP world with limited fuel building an engine with lower internal losses ( no valve springs, no pneumatic pumps for valves like Suzuki and now Yamaha, no balance shafts, even firing order etc) was the best way to get power and speed with a fuel economy margin.... that stuff wins championships

VFR's sounding like IL4's? Have you been drinking?
180 deg V4's sound like two small capacity V twins joined side by side on a common crank.. ( now there's an idea, got 2 SV650 donks? ) and in countries such as ours where we grew up to the sound of V8 motors the off beat cadence is music to the ears. The RC45 donk with its even firing intervals is easier to compare to a IL4, but you would never mistake the two.
Now try this for size.Ducati D16RR firing at 0 deg, 90deg, 290deg, 380deg......!
