Wow. Will your wife call my wife?
I even hint at something like that and she just scowls and mutters something about chasing a 3 year old, holding a 7 month old on her hip all the time, and lack of sleep. I don't get it.
Cool bike! And that was beyond cool of your wife. I hope you return the favor. Of course she may have seen something more expensive than the bike that she's got her eye on....

Ever since I took a test ride on a 990 I've been agonizing over figuring out when, if and how I should buy one. And I've been pretty good about keeping it to myself and not driving my wife insane about it.
You do have the greatest wife ever, but I think you understated how well you kept your agony to yourself

A good wife knows when to reward a husband (if only to shut him up). Yours sounds like a keeper. Nice pic from The Bench, BTW. Boise is a neat town.
You do know that its now 1-0, right? You'll have to buy her something.

I'm curious to know how the KTM Adventure handles longer trips of mostly paved roads. I would love to have one, someday. You are toooooo lucky.

I think it will do very well on longer trips. It's not the effortless mile eater the FJR is but I'm willing to compromise for the fun factor and ability to take of down an unpaved path. It's does the highway very well and I am surprised. It has a power port for heated stuff and the screen does pretty well with me @ 5' 11". There's also a touring screen available.
We aren't swimming in cash we just never buy much, no kids, have a very small and modest house and I do feel very fortunate that I have an opportunity while I can to try different things.

Wow, my wife said she'd take the kids in so I could ride my bike to work and I was happy. Different thresholds, I guess.
Beautiful bike. Totally made for Idaho, too. Are you planning to do the Magruder Corridor next summer?!?
The real mystery is...
When you going riding with us again?
Magruder huh? I've been invited on a Continental Divide Trail excursion. I also want to do Baja.

She wants a new kitten later this year. No, a real furry one.
But I was OK with that along time ago.

Congrats. Big time. Special bride, special bike. Rented a 990 to see what they were all about while south of the equator on biz. Bike totally over delivered, from up in the Andes down to the Pacific. Sold a bike to pick one up. No regrets.

Yes that one, very cool. Your and others played a part in my decision. I figured if there we people riding around in the Andes on 990s then they were good enough for me.

I thought I'd better go looking for the KTM story. I've been workin' while you guys were playing. Good job, X.
You said you have a modest house. Is it the only one on the street with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and an 8 bay garage?

Heh heh.
You were asking in the other thread if the mighty katoom could make a tourer and the answer is yes. It's probably going to be a bit more quirky and require slightly more maintenance than the FJR but I'm ready to give it a try. Some people never have any problems and some people have lemons. Luckily I live 2 miles from a freakin great LC8 mechanic and that's the only reason I considered one. But there are people who ride them all over the place and they are reliable for them. There are 3 weaknesses - clutches, water pumps and fuel pumps and all of these can be resolved somewhat inexpensively.
Part hooligan, sportbike, dirtbike and standard, the 990 is the funnest bike I've owned. I cannot wait until I can get out on it again. Unfortunately I'm in Montreal on a bidness trip.
As far as needing to be a good rider...it's easy to ride and I'm a much better offroad rider than I am a street rider so it works well for me.

You know I don't even know about mileage. I think most get around 39Mpg but I never pay much attention to that sort of thing to be honest.
I've only put about 900 miles on the bike and then I was gone for most of October and the beginning of November. I did get the first service done and some new FMFs that sound pretty cool and look great. Next is perhaps some heated gear, crash protectors for the fuel lobes and then some side cases.
I love what I have experienced so far though and the bike is a lot of fun. I think I've said this before but it's part sportbike, dirtbike and naked hooligan bike all in one.
When it warms up and dries out a bit I'll get out again and start taking some rides and pictures.
