Just curious.

Stoner has been in the lead for a long time this year.

What is the minimum points he or Rossi needs to win the championship?

I assume one of them will win because they are so far ahead of the rest of the field.

Thanks,

Tom.

Stoner could have clinched it today had he won and Rossi had a bad day. As it stands, Rossi still has a mathmatical chance of winning the title, but it's a real longshot. Look for Stoner to take it in Japan (Oh the irony).

Is it a point total needed (300 for example) or just a point total where no one else can get to that many points, therefore you win?

There's no magic number - the winner is the one with the most points at the end of the season, so if one rider gets to the point where nobody else can get enough points to overtake them even if they score no more, they've one. E.G.- if someone has a lead of more than 75 with three races to go.

When the points lead is greater than NumberOfRacesLeft x 25, you have a winner.

Well, if Casey gets a mathematical lead that is impossible to catch up to, then yes. However, there can be a points tie in which the next Championship qualifying content is the # of wins, then the # of podiums and those corresponding placements.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

I know Rossi has won the championship with 2 or 3 races left in the past but I never knew the formula that was used to make him the winner?

Thanks,

Tom.
